2004-05 Wrestling Season Summary

(16-3 Overall; 11-1 in the NECCWA; 5-1 in the Pilgrim League) |

Providence, RI--
Head Coach Jay Jones’ team closed out the 2004-05 season at
the New England College Conference Wrestling Association (NECCWA)
Championships, hosted by Johnson & Wales University on Saturday
and Sunday, Feb. 19-20. The Anchormen took home third place with
87 points. It was the highest finish for the RIC grapplers since
the 1992-93 squad also placed third. RIC had seven wrestlers
attain All-New England status. |

|
The Rhode Island College wrestling team posted a 16-3 overall
record and was 11-1 in the NECCWA. RIC was denied its third
consecutive Pilgrim Wrestling League title, recording a record of
5-1 against Pilgrim League competition. This season marked RIC’s
first loss versus Pilgrim League competition since the 2001-02
campaign. |

In addition, RIC recorded its second straight season with 16
regular season victories. |
|
|
|
Senior
Justin Deveau (North Attleboro, MA) closed out his career
with an overall record of 135-33 (.803) with 571 points, including
191 takedowns, 41 reversals, 136 escapes, 57 near-falls and 29
pins. Deveau attained All-New England status in each of his four
years at RIC. |
|
|
|
As a
senior in 2004-05, he earned All-New England honors, placing
second at 197 lbs at the NECCWA Championships. He was 32-7 at 197
lbs. with 128 points, 51 takedowns, nine reversals, 26 escapes, 12
near-falls and six pins on the season. He placed third at 285 lbs.
at the RWU Invitational on Nov. 13 and second at the Citrus
Invitational on Dec. 29. |

|
As a junior in 2003-04, Deveau was selected as one
of two N.E. Wild-Cards to compete at the NCAA Div. III
Championships. Deveau went 1-2 at the NCAA Championships. Each of
his losses were to eventual All-Americans. He earned All-New
England honors, placing second at 285 lbs. at the NECCWA
Championships. He was 39-6 at 285 lbs. with 161 points, 57
takedowns, ten reversals, 42 escapes, 15 near-falls and five pins. |

|
As a sophomore in 2002-03, Deveau earned All-New England honors,
placing second at 197 lbs. at the NECCWA Championships. He was
33-5 at 197 lbs. with 147 points, 50 takedowns, seven reversals,
31 escapes, 18 near-falls and ten pins. |
|
|
|
As a freshman in 2001-02, he earned All-New England honors,
placing second at 197 lbs. at the NECCWA Championships. Deveau was
31-15 at 197 lbs. with 135 points, 33 takedowns, 15 reversals, 37
escapes, 12 near-falls and eight pins. |

|
|
He is a marketing major and a 2001 graduate of North Attleboro
High School. |

|
Senior
Luke Emmons (West Greenwich, RI) closed out his four-year
career at RIC with a career record of 86-55 (.610) with 363
points, 157 takedowns, 62 reversals, 144 escapes, 42 near-falls
and 22 pins. |
|
|
|
As a
senior in 2004-05, Emmons earned All-New England honors, placing
second at 141 lbs. at the NECCWA Championships. He was 28-7 at 141
lbs. with 103 points, 51 takedowns, 16 reversals, five near-falls
and five pins on the season. Emmons placed second at 141 lbs. at
the Roger Williams Invitational on Nov. 13 and at the R.I.T.
Invitational on Dec. 4. He placed fourth at 141 lbs. at the Citrus
Invitational on Dec. 29. |

|
|
As a junior in 2003-04, he was 18-17 at 149 lbs. with 76 points,
40 takedowns, 15 reversals, 39 escapes, 21 near-falls and four
pins. |
|
|
|
Emmons redshirted the 2002-03 campaign. |
|
|
|
As a sophomore in 2001-02, Emmons was 25-16 at 141 lbs. with 113
points, 40 takedowns, 21 reversals, 33 escapes, 12 near-falls and
eight pins. |
|
|
|
As a freshman in 2000-01, he was 15-15 with 71 points, 26
takedowns, ten reversals, 40 escapes, four near-falls and five
pins. |
|
|
|
He is a management major and a 2000 graduate of Exeter-West
Greenwich High School. |
|
|
|
Freshman
Rob LeRoux (Fall River, MA) earned All-New England honors,
placing second at 133 lbs. at the NECCWA Championships. He went
9-3 at 133 lbs. with 33 points, 28 takedowns, one reversal and one
near-fall on the season. |

|
|
Senior
Keith Nelson (Rhinebeck, NY) closed out his three-year
career at RIC with a 99-44 (.692) overall record with 390 points,
209 takedowns, 22 reversals, 165 escapes, 56 near-falls and 21
pins. Nelson attained All-New England status in each of his three
years as an Anchorman. |

As a
senior in 2004-05, Nelson earned All-New England honors, placing
third at 174 lbs. at the NECCWA Championships. He was 34-10 at 174
lbs. with 136 points, 67 takedowns, seven reversals, 16 near-falls
and six pins on the season. He placed second at the RWU
Invitational on Nov. 13, third at the Doug Parker Invitational on
Nov. 20 and fifth at the R.I.T. Invitational on Dec. 4 in the 174
lbs. weight class. Nelson took home third place at 174 lbs. at the
Citrus Invitational on Dec. 29. Nelson was named a Scholar
All-American by the NCAA Div. III Wrestling Coaches Association. |

As a junior in 2003-04, Nelson earned All-New England honors,
placing sixth at 174 lbs.
at the
NECCWA Championships. For the season,
he was 36-16 at 174 lbs. with 142 points, 80 takedowns, six
reversals, 57 escapes, 22 near-falls and nine pins. |

|
|
As a sophomore in 2002-03, he earned All-New England honors,
placing fifth at 174 lbs.
at the
NECCWA Championships. On the season, he
was 29-18 with 112 points, 62 takedowns, nine reversals, 65
escapes, 18 near-falls and six pins. |
|
|
|
As a freshman in 2001-02, Nelson posted a record of 16-12 at 174
lbs. with 78 points and eight pins while at SUNY Morrisville. |
|
|
|
He is a telecommunications major and a 2001 graduate of Rhinebeck
High School. |
|
|
|
Junior
B.J. Atkinson (Danbury, CT) earned All-New England honors
at 285 lbs., placing fourth at the NECCWA Championships. He was
13-14 at 285 lbs. with 66 points, 24 takedowns, four near-falls
and seven pins on the season. He placed fifth at 285 lbs. at the
Roger Williams Invitational on Nov. 13. |

Junior
Arty Privedenyuk (Springfield, MA) earned All-New England
honors, placing fifth at 165 lbs. at the NECCWA Championships. He
was 26-15 at 165 lbs. with 115 points, 34 takedowns, 25 reversals,
25 near-falls and ten pins on the season. He placed third at the
Roger Williams Invitational on Nov. 13, fourth at the Doug Parker
Invitational on Nov. 20 and sixth at the R.I.T. Invitational on
Dec. 4 at 165 lbs. |

Senior
Dave Paquette (Ledyard, CT) closed out a two-year career as
an Anchorman with a 33-23 (.589) record with 132 points, 97
takedowns, 23 reversals, 56 escapes, 14 near-falls and five pins.
|
|
|
|
As a
senior in 2004-05, Paquette earned All-New England honors, placing
sixth at 157 lbs. at the NECCWA Championships. He was 21-13 at 157
lbs. with 79 points, 63 takedowns, 14 reversals, seven near-falls
and one pin on the season. He placed sixth at 157 lbs. at the Doug
Parker Invitational on Nov. 20. Paquette placed fifth at 157 lbs.
at the Citrus Invitational on Dec. 29. Paquette was named a
Scholar All-American by the NCAA Div. III Wrestling Coaches
Association. |

As a junior in 2003-04, Paquette went 12-10 at 157 lbs. with 53
points, 34 takedowns, nine reversals, 25 escapes, seven near-falls
and four pins. |
|
|
|
Prior to coming to RIC, Paquette grappled two seasons at Johnson
and Wales. He was 22-11 at 157 lbs. as a sophomore in 2000-01 and
9-20 at 149 and 157 lbs. as a freshman in 1999-00. |
|
|
|
He is a computer information systems major and a 1999 graduate of
Ledyard High School. |
|
|
|
Senior
Eddy German (Providence, RI) closed out his four-year
career at RIC earning 26 wins with 114 points, 83 takedowns, eight
reversals, 57 escapes, seven near-falls and two pins. |
|
|
|
As a senior in 2004-05,
he was
1-2 at 125 lbs. with three points, three takedowns and one
reversal. |
|
|
|
As a junior in 2003-04, he was 5-7 at 125 lbs. with 16 points, 23
takedowns, four reversals, 12 escapes and one near-fall. |
|
|
|
As a sophomore in 2002-03, he was 17-21 at 125 lbs. with 83
points, 52 takedowns, three reversals, 32 escapes, six near-falls
and two pins. |
|
|
|
German’s 2001-02 freshman campaign was cut short when he
dislocated his elbow in practice in late November. Prior to his
injury, he was 3-4 at 125 lbs. with 12 points, five takedowns and
nine escapes. |
|
|
|
He is an elementary education major, with a concentration in
special education, and a 2001 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High
School. |
|
|
|
Senior Radbeh Torabi (Cranston, RI) closed his career as a
reserve on this year’s team. As a sophomore in 2000-01, he earned
one win at 165 lbs. with six points, five takedowns, four
reversals, seven escapes and three near-falls. |
|
|
|
As a freshman in 1999-00, he earned two wins at 174 lbs. with 11
points, five takedowns, one reversal, three escapes, two
near-falls and one pin. |
|
|
|
He is a psychology major and a 1999 graduate of Cranston High
School West. |
|
|
|
Senior
Matt Kelly (Carver, MA) was 13-10 at 149 lbs. with 61
points, 16 takedowns, five reversals, 16 near-falls and seven pins
on the season. Kelly plans on applying for a redshirt for an
additional season next winter. |
|
|
|
Junior
Todd Bloom (Wantagh, NY) was 12-10 at 133 lbs. with 48
points, 21 takedowns, four reversals, six near-falls and three
pins. Bloom placed second at 133 lbs. at the Roger Williams
Invitational on Nov. 13. |
|
|
|
Junior
Richard Chute (Wrentham, MA) was 6-8 at 141 lbs. with 20
points, 23 takedowns, two reversals and two near-falls. |
|
|
|
Sophomore Ian Coyne (Amston, CT) was 3-12 at 157 lbs. with
nine points, six takedowns and two reversals. |
|
|
|
Sophomore Ryan DeSisto (Warwick, RI) was 9-7 at 141 lbs.
with 39 points, 23 takedowns, three reversals, two near-falls and
three pins on the season. He placed fifth at 141 lbs. at the R.I.T.
Invitational on Dec. 4. |

|
|
Sophomore Ray Hanley (Wantagh, NY) was 20-12 at 125 lbs.
with 95 points, 19 takedowns, 13 reversals, 18 near-falls and
seven pins on the season. |
|
|
|
Sophomore Eric Martell (Chepachet, RI) was 6-6 at 184 lbs.
with 27 points, five takedowns and two pins. |
|
|
|
Sophomore Colin Smith (Wading River, NY) was 4-10 at 165
lbs. with 16 points, eight takedowns, four reversals and four
near-falls. |
|
|
|
Sophomore Olutosin Taylor (Copiague, NY) was 4-4 at 197
lbs. with 18 points, five takedowns, four reversals and two pins
on the season. He placed sixth at 197 lbs. at the Doug Parker
Invitational on Nov. 20. |

Andrew Blanchard (Warwick, RI) was 0-2 at 141 lbs. |

Brendan Casey (Lowell, MA) was 4-7 at 165 lbs. with 14
