2004-05 Mens Indoor Track & Field Season Summary

Providence, RI--Head
Coach Kevin Jacksons team closed out the 2004-05 season at the
Last Chance Meet, hosted by Trinity College at Yale on Saturday, Mar.

|
|
The Anchormen competed at the New England Div. III Championships,
hosted by Tufts University, on Feb. 18-19. RIC placed 18th
(24 teams) with 13.5 points. |
|
|
|
RIC competed at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance
Championships, hosted by Southern Maine, on Feb. 12. RIC placed
seventh overall and fifth in the Little East with scores of 52.0 and
65.0, respectively. |
|
|
|
As a team, RIC broke or tied three team records this season. |
|
|
|
Junior Manny Karngar (Providence, RI) earned All-American
honors in the 800 meters, placing fifth overall at the NCAA Div. III
Mens Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Illinois Wesleyan
University on Saturday, Mar. 12. He posted a time of 1:54.99 in the
finals of the 800 meters, which garnered him All-American honors.
Prior to that race, he placed first in his qualifying heat with a time
of 1:55.18. Karngars quest for All-American honors started when he
qualified for the NCAA Championships with a school-record second
place, 1:53.13 effort, in the preliminary round of the 800 meters at
the New England Open Championships, hosted by Boston University, on
Feb. 26. |

In other competition this season, Karngar earned All-New England
honors in the 600 meters, placing first with a program-record time of
1:21.12, at the New England Div. III Championships on Feb. 19. He
earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in four events, placing second
in the 400 meters and fifth in both the 200 and 800 meters with times
of 50.59, 23.56 and 2:04.42, respectively, at the Alliance
Championships on Feb. 12. Karngar earned All-Alliance/Little East
honors as part of the 4x400 meter relay team, which placed fifth with
a time of 3:33.96. He placed first in the 800 meters with a time of
1:57.02 at the Tufts Invitational Feb. 5. He placed first in the 600
meters and fourth in the mile with times of 1:22.88 and 4:30.95,
respectively, at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 29. Karngar
placed first in the 800 meters with a time of 1:55.20 at the Tufts
Invitational on Jan. 22. He placed first in the 400 meters and second
in the 200 meters with times of 50.58 and 23.25, respectively, at the
Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 15. He placed fourth in the 400 meters
with a program-tying time of 50.04 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec.
11. He placed second in the 800 meters with a time of 1:54.68 at the
Alden Invitational on Dec. 4. |

Senior
Marc Piette (Woonsocket, RI) earned All-New England honors in the
weight throw, placing eighth with a distance of 15.59 meters at the
New England Div. III Championships on Feb. 19. He earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors in the weight throw, placing third
with a distance of 4709.25
at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 12.
Piette placed tenth in the shot put with a distance of 3904.75. He
placed second in the weight throw with a distance of 14.79 meters at
the Tufts Invitational on Feb. 5. He placed fourth in the weight throw
and seventh in the shot with throws of 5001.25 and 3901.50,
respectively, at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 29. Piette
placed third in the weight throw with a distance of 15.60 meters at
the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 22. He placed second in the weight
throw with a distance of 14.41 meters and sixth in the shot put with a
distance of 11.61 meters at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 15. He
placed fifth in the weight throw with a distance of 14.30 meters at
the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 11. |

As a junior
in 2003-04, Piette
earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the weight throw, placing
second with a season-best distance of 49'02.75", at the Alliance
Championships. He also placed tenth in the shot at 38'04.25". He
finished 28th in the shot with a distance of 3700.25 and
sixth in the weight throw with a mark of 4602.00 at the Tufts
Invitational. |

|
He placed sixth in the shot and seventh in the weight throw with a
season-best distance of 39'09.00" and 44'08.00", respectively at the
Southern Maine Invitational. He finished fifth in shot with a distance
of 3703.75 and second in the weight throw with a distance of
4510.00 at the Wesleyan Invitational. He placed ninth in the weight
throw with a distance of 4106.50 at the Yale Classic on. He placed
third in the weight throw with a distance of 4600.50 at the Alden
Invitational. |

|
As a sophomore in 2002-03, he placed 24th in the weight
throw with a distance of 13.15 meters at the ECAC Championships. He
placed 13th in the weight throw with a distance of
4702.25 at the New England Championships. Piette earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors in the weight throw and the shot,
placing first with a distance of 4904.50 and seventh with a distance
of 4002.25 respectively. |

|
Piette placed third in the shot with a distance of 4102.50 at the
Southern Maine Invitational. He placed fourth in the weight throw with
a distance of 4800.50 at the same meet. He placed ninth in the
weight throw with a distance of 4511.75 at the Terrier Classic.
Piette placed third in the weight throw with a distance of 4811.5 at
the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational. He placed ninth in the
weight throw with a distance of 4502.50 at the Yale Invitational.
Piette placed third in the weight throw with a distance of 14.15
meters and sixth in the shot with a distance of 12.00 meters at the
Harvard Invitational. He placed third in the weight throw with a
distance of 4406.25 and placed sixth in the shot with a distance of
3910.50 at the Brown Invitational. |

|
Prior to coming to RIC, Piette competed at the Community College of
Rhode Island. He is a physical education/health major and a 2000
graduate of Woonsocket High School. |

|
Senior Joe Parenteau (Smithfield, RI) earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors as part of the 4x800 meter relay team,
which placed fifth with a time of 8:53.76, and in the 800 meters with
an eighth-place, 2:13.60 effort at the Alliance Championships on Feb.
12. |

|
|
As a junior in 2003-04, he missed the majority of the season with a
knee injury. He finished seventh in the 800 meters with a time of
2:00.27 at the Yale Classic. He placed fourth in the mile with a time
of 4:32.22 at the Alden Invitational. |
|
|
|
As a sophomore in 2002-03, Parenteau placed 12th as part of
the distance medley relay team with a time of 10:24.19 at the ECAC
Championships, establishing a new RIC record in the process. He earned
All-New England honors as part of the distance medley relay team,
which placed second with a time of 10:30.54. He earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 1,500 meters, placing fourth
with a time of 4:06.08. He placed 15th in the 3,000 meters
with a time of 9:23.11 at the same meet. |

|
As a freshman in 2001-02, he
earned
All-New England honors as part of the distance medley team, which
placed sixth with a time of 10:44.84 at the N.E. Div. III
Championships. He earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 800
meters, placing sixth overall with a season-best time of 2:06.01.
Parenteau ran a season-best time of 4:26.89 in the 1,500 meters at the
Brandeis Invitational. At the Brown Invitational, Parenteau ran a
season-best time of 4:41.98 in the mile, placing tenth overall. |

Parenteau is a physical education major and a 2001 graduate of
Smithfield High School. |

Junior
Tim Goodwin (Warwick, RI)
earned All-Alliance/Little East honors as part of the 4x800 meter
relay team, which placed fifth with a time of 8:53.76 at the Alliance
Championships on Feb. 12.
Goodwin also
placed 12th
in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:52.03. He placed 20th
in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:52.58 at the Tufts Invitational
on Feb. 5. He placed seventh in the 3,000 meters with a time of
9:57.84 at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 29. Goodwin placed
16th in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:55.81 at the
Tufts Invitational on Jan. 22. He placed seventh in the 3,000 meters
with a time of 10:31.53 and 13th in the 800 meters with a
time of 2:15.96 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 15. |

Nick Palazzo (Johnston, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little East honors
in the weight throw, placing fourth with a distance of 4601.75
at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 12. |

in the weight throw, placing eighth with a distance of 3807.25

in the weight throw with a distance of 11.90 meters at the Tufts

Matt Goroza (West Warwick, RI)
earned All-Alliance/Little East honors as part of the 4x400 meter
relay team, which placed fifth with a time of 3:33.96 at the Alliance
Championships on Feb. 12. He also
placed 12th
in the 600 meters with a time of 1:33.87. He placed 16th
in the 600 meters with a time of 1:34.61 at the Tufts Invitational on
Feb. 5. He placed 12th in the 400 meters and 14th
in the 200 meters with times of 57.35 and 25.63, respectively, at the
Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 29. Goroza placed 17th
in the 400 meters with a time of 57.18 at the Tufts Invitational on
Jan. 22. He placed 16th in the 200 meters with a time of
26.06 and 12th in the 500 meters with a time of 1:14.67 at
the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 15. He placed 73rd in
the 200 meters with a time of 25.67 at the Harvard Invitational on
Dec. 11. Goroza placed 23rd in the 200 meter dash with a
time of 26.35 and 13th in the 400 meter dash with a time of
58.82 at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 4. |

Eric Lonergan (North Kingstown, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little
East honors in the 1,000 meters, placing sixth with a time of 2:41.63
at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 12.
Lonergan earned All-Alliance/Little East honors as part of the 4x800
meter relay team, which placed fifth with a time of 8:53.76.
He placed
tenth in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:39.98 at the Tufts
Invitational of Feb. 5. He placed eighth in the 800 meters and 14th
in the mile with times of 2:07.63 and 4:46.25, respectively, at the
Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 29. He placed 24th in
the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:39.63 at the Tufts Invitational on
Jan. 22. He placed fifth in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:44.68
and seventh in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:19.04 at the Wesleyan
Invitational on Jan. 15. He placed 23rd in the 800 meters
with a time of 2:03.38 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 11.
Lonergan placed tenth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:50.14 at
the Alden Invitational on Dec. 4. |

Bo Luong (Millbury, MA) placed 11th in the long jump
and triple jump, with leaps of 1910.00 and 3904.25, respectively
at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 12.
He placed 11th in the triple jump with a leap of 11.59
meters at the Tufts Invitational on Feb. 5. He placed ninth in the
triple jump and tenth in the long jump with leaps of 1901.50 and
3803.00, respectively, at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan.
29. Luong placed ninth in the long jump with a leap of 5.62 meters at
the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 22. He placed third in the long jump
with a leap of 5.90 meters and third in the triple jump with a
distance of 12.00 meters at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 15. He
placed 18th in the long jump with a leap of 5.84 meters at
the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 11. |

John Martinelli (North Providence, RI) placed 12th in
the 200 meters with a time of 24.83 and eighth in the 400 meters with
a time of 55.72 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 15. He placed 41st
in the 400 meters with a time of 55.14 and 55th in the 200
meters with a time of 24.68 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 11.
Martinelli placed ninth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 55.24 at
the Alden Invitational on Dec. 4. |

Dan Newman (Smithfield, RI) earned All-New England honors in the
high jump, tying for sixth with a leap of 1.91 meters at the New
England Div. III Championships on Feb. 19. He tied for eighth place in
the high jump with a leap of 1.80 meters at the Trinity College Last
Chance meet on Feb. 5. He placed second in the high jump with a leap
of 600.25 at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 29. Newman
placed first in the high jump with a leap of 1.93 meters at the Tufts
Invitational on Jan. 22.. For his efforts he was named the Little
East Conference Mens Field Athlete of the Week. He placed
second in the high jump with a height of 1.93 meters at the Wesleyan
Invitational on Jan. 15. He placed eighth in the high jump with a
height of 1.86 meters at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 11. |

Greg Clark (Pawtucket, RI)
earned All-Alliance/Little East honors as part of the 4x800 meter
relay team, which placed fifth with a time of 8:53.76, and
in the 1,500 meters, placing fifth with a time of 4:20.34
at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 12.
He placed ninth in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:47.03. He placed
13th in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:44.50 at the
Tufts Invitational on Feb. 5. He placed 21st in the mile
with a time of 4:47.27 at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 29.
Clark placed eighth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:09.28 and 13th
in the 1,500 meters with a time of 5:03.37 at the Wesleyan
Invitational on Jan. 15. He placed 31st in the 800 meters
with a time of 2:05.65 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 11. He
placed fourth in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:43.04 at the Alden

at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 12.

meter relay team, which placed fifth with a time of 3:33.96.
He placed
fourth in the 600 meters with a time of 1:26.06 at the Tufts
Invitational on Feb. 5. He placed sixth in the 400 meters with a time
of 54.05 at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 29. He placed 13th

Jordan Wright (Brookline, MA) earned All-Alliance/Little East
honors in three events, placing eighth in the long jump and fifth in
the triple jump with a jump of 2001.50 and a program record leap of

at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 12.
Wright earned All-Alliance/Little East honors as part of the 4x400
meter relay team, which placed fifth with a time of 3:33.96.
Wright also
placed 12th in the 200 meters with a time of 23.98. He
placed eighth in the 200 meters with a time of 24.03 and was sixth in
the triple jump with a leap of 12.48 meters at the Tufts Invitational
on Feb. 5. He placed sixth in the 55 meters with a time of 6.89,
fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 23.80, and seventh in the long
jump with a leap of 1907.75 at the Southern Maine Invitational on
Jan. 29. Wright placed tenth in preliminary round of the 55 meters
with a time of 6.88 and eighth in the triple jump with a leap of 12.33
meters at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 22. He placed sixth in the
55 meter dash with a time of 6.88, fifth in the 200 meters with a time
of 23.76, second in the long jump with a leap of 6.19 meters and first
in the triple jump with a distance of 12.56 meters at the Wesleyan
Invitational on Jan. 15. He placed 13th in the 200 meters
with a time of 23.26 and 14th in long jump with a leap of
5.96 meters at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 11. Wright placed
tenth in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.83, ninth in the 200 meter
dash with a time of 23.79 and ninth in the long jump with a distance
