NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University women's tennis took two of three doubles and five of six singles matches for a 7-2 decision over visiting Rhode Island College in the season-opener for both schools.

Kristina and Michelle Kennedy [JR/ East Moriches, N.Y.] registered an 8-4 win at first doubles right after Louise Taylor [SO/ Yarmouth, Maine] and Aki Tokutake [JR/ Tokyo, Japan] scored an 8-2 victory at second doubles. RIC earned its first point with an 8-3 win at third doubles from Ashley Gorman [JR/ Cumberland, R.I.] and Tara Marchant [JR/ North Scituate, R.I.].

In singles play, Seahawk senior tri-captains Katie Wright [SR/ Lincoln, R.I.], Marissa Giaimo [SR/ Garden City, N.Y.], and Alicia Wills [SR/ Londonderry, N.H.] each won in straight sets. Kristina Kennedy held on for a straight-set win at third singles while Louise Taylor earned her first victory in the first singles position. Megan Hall [FR/ Smithfield, R.I.] won in three sets at second singles for the Anchorwomen.
