It
was an entertaining game, marked by aggressive play on both ends and
four yellow cards – two to each side. |
Brown
had one goal and figured in Oswego’s first tally – an own goal six
minutes into the second half. Dave Stewart (Burnaby
British Columbia/Burnaby North)
scored the second Oswego goal, assisted by Jason Popovich (Baldwinsville,
NY/C.W. Baker). |
Kyle Teixeira (Warren,
RI/Mt. Hope) scored one
goal for Rhode Island College and assisted on the second – scored by
Tyrell Burgess (Smiths, Bermuda/Wilbraham & Monson). Texieira
moved within two points of tying the RIC career point scoring record
of 147. |
Oswego goalkeeper Greg Keenan (Warsaw,
NY/Warsaw Central) had
seven saves. RIC’s Jadon Neves (Warren,
RI/Mt. Hope) made one save.
Rhode Island outshot Oswego, 22-9. |
Teixeira opened the scoring at 18:40. James Nigrelli played a
pass upfield that found Teixeira in stride behind the defense and he
quickly left-footed the ball into the lower right hand corner of the
net as Keenan charged off the line. |
Oswego got even at 51:35. Brown played a long ball from right wing
into the center of the box. No one could control it and the ball
deflected off an RIC defender into the unguarded net. |
Burgess snapped the 1-1 tie at 71:02. Teixeira intercepted a poor
clearance on left wing and dribbled into the box. He crossed the ball
to Burgess who fired it into the low left hand corner. |
At
72:33, Popovich centered the ball from right wing and it landed at the
foot of Stewart who banged an eight-yarder under Neves to equalize. |
