ANCHORWOMEN HOLD ON FOR ONE-GOAL
VICTORY
|
|
Providence, RI—The
Rhode Island College Anchorwomen scored two goals early and held off a
late charge from the Roger Williams Hawks to earn a 3-2 victory in
collegiate women’s soccer action on Tuesday, Sept. 6. |
|
|
|
RIC got on the scoreboard
early in the tenth minute as sophomore midfielder Michaela Bileau
(Woonsocket, RI) took a ball that was misplayed by Hawks’ freshman
goalkeeper Kayla Leonard (Martha’s Vineyard, MA) and put it in
the back of the net. That goal was followed two minutes later when
junior midfielder Caitlin Gavin (Portsmouth, RI) put the
Anchorwomen up 2-0. |

|
|
Roger Williams fought back in
the second half scoring in the 53rd minute when freshman
Kristen O’Gorman (Tyngsboro, MA) scored to pull the Hawks within
one goal. That margin would not last very long as 24 seconds later,
RIC sophomore midfielder Krista MacKinnon (Exeter, RI) scored
what turned out to be the game-winner. The Hawks added a goal in the
62nd minute on junior forward Caitlin Mayo’s (Merrimack,
NH) tally, but ultimately could not pull even. |

|
In goal for RIC, freshman
Krissie Pyzynski (Bristol, CT) stopped four shots to pick up her
second win of the season. Leonard also turned away four Anchorwomen
shots and took the loss. With the win, RIC improves to 2-0 on the
season while the Hawks fall to 1-2. |

In upcoming action, RIC will
