BRUNSWICK, Maine-The Bowdoin College men's soccer team built a four-goal lead and held off a late flurry, defeating Rhode Island College 5-2 on Wednesday. The victory marked the home-opener for the Polar Bears, who improve to 2-0 on the season. The Anchormen drop to 1-3 with the loss.

Both teams had good, early chances but Bowdoin broke through first, late in the opening frame. A Bowdoin throw into the box was deflected to Anthony Regis, who collected the ball, turned and buried a low shot into the back of the net at 41:12 for a 1-0 lead. The Polar Bears doubled theirlead early in the second half as Simon Parsons gathered a loose ball off a feed from Andrew Russo and tucked a shot inside the right post at 47:44.

Russo made it 3-0 with a goal at 54:01, moving into a tie for third-place all-time at Bowdoin with his 29th career goal, three shy of the school mark. Parsons tallied  is second score at 59:20, lofting a shot over the head of Rhode Island netminder Jadon Neves.

Kyle Teixeira provided a spark for the Anchormen late in the contest, scoring twice within a four-minute span at 64:01 and 67:37, but Bowdoin held and added a late goal on a header by Kevin Mullins at 88:42.

Nathan Lovitz stopped two shots for Bowdoin, while Neves (10 saves, four goals-against, 71 minutes) and Dan Rodrigues (one save, one goal, 19 minutes) split time for Rhode Island College.
