CHASON
DOUBLES AGAIN IN 3-0 TUFTS WIN OVER RIC |
|
|
|
MEDFORD - Junior Mattia Chason (Rome,
ITALY) scored
twice for the second consecutive game as Tufts University recorded a
3-0 victory against visiting Rhode Island College in mens soccer
action at Kraft Field Tuesday. |
|
|
|
With
heart-breaking losses in its previous two games against non-conference
opponents, Tufts came out looking to play a full 90 minutes and
reverse that trend. Thirteen minutes in, Chason scored his third
straight goal for the team off a through ball from sophomore Dan
Jozwiak (Boulder,
CO) to make it
1-0. Freshman Sam James (Cincinnati,
OH) then scored
his first collegiate goal in the 40th minute. Classmate Peter
DeGregorio (Whately,
MA) set up the
goal beautifully, tipping the ball with the back of his foot to an
open James, who ricocheted his shot off the near post and into the net
on the far side. The game went to half at 2-0 Tufts. |
|
|
|
Tufts
added to its lead when Chason was awarded a penalty kick and converted
in the 55th minute for his fourth goal in two games. He beat Anchorman
sophomore keeper Jadon Neves (Warren,
RI) low to the
right. Rhode Island College would hold possession for the better of
the second half, but Tufts limited their scoring opportunities and
freshman keeper Brian Dulmovits (Sayville,
NY) was on the
spot when a shot was on net. He finished with four saves for his third
shutout of the season. |
|
|
|
The
third shutout by the team already matches last years total and is the
best since the 2001 Jumbos posted four. Including Saturday’s 2-0
victory over Amherst, the Jumbos posted consecutive shutouts for the
first time since the 2001 squad defeated MIT 2-0 on September 19,
Colby 2-0 on September 22 and Amherst 1-0 on September 25. |
|
|
|
The
visiting Anchormen finished with advantages in shots (12-9) and
corners (6-2), but could not create nor take advantage of their
opportunities as Tufts did. The Jumbos scored their three goals and

Neves
was not credited with a save in the game for RIC. |
