NORTH DARTMOUTH,
MA-Former Dartmouth High School forward Erika Haaland
scored less than a minute into overtime to give Rhode Island College a
1-0 victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women’s
soccer team in a Little East Conference match at Cressy Field Saturday
afternoon. |

|
|
Haaland’s shot, 45
seconds into overtime, ended a scoreless match on homecoming weekend.
It was the only shot of the overtime period. |

The Corsairs, who out
shot the Anchorwomen, 12-6 in the second half, had a 21-16 shot
advantage for the game. Sophomore goalkeeper Shawna Howell
(Uxbridge, MA) made 12 saves for UMass Dartmouth, while Krissie
Pyzinski made 14 saves for RIC. |

|
|
“We played a much
more aggressive game in the second half than we did in the first
half,” said UMass Dartmouth Assistant Coach Sarah Bourque. “We
just didn’t put the ball in the back of the net. We didn’t come out
strong at the start of the game, but we controlled play for a good 25
to 30 minutes in the second half.” |
|
|
|
The Corsairs fell to
3-7 and 0-3 in LEC play with the defeat. The Anchorwomen improved to
7-2 and 2-1 in the Little East. UMass Dartmouth will return to action
when they visit UMass Boston next Saturday. |
