ANCHORWOMEN TIE SCHOOL RECORD
IN SHUTOUT WIN

Providence, RI—Rhode
Island College tied a school record with its sixth consecutive win in
an 8-0 rout over visiting Salve Regina on Wednesday afternoon. The
Anchorwomen improve to 9-2 on the year, the best 11-game start to a
season in the program’s 11-year history. The Seahawks fall to 5-5
overall in the loss. |

Sophomore forward Gina
Calenda (Warren, RI) and sophomore midfielder Krista MacKinnon
(Exeter, RI) the Anchorwomen with two goals and one assist for
five-point efforts. Calenda scored what proved to be the game-winning
goal in the 21st minute. Junior forward Erika Haaland
(North Dartmouth, MA) also scored two goals. Sophomore midfielder
Michaela Bileau (Woonsocket, RI) and freshman midfielder
Kendra Gerrish (North Stonington, CT) also tallied for the
Anchorwomen. Gerrish’s goal was the first of her collegiate career. |

The Anchorwomen were not
tested often in their own zone as freshman goalkeeper Krissie
Pyzynski (Bristol, CT) made two saves in 69 minutes. Sophomore
Leah Hayes (Coventry, RI) did not make a save in 21 minutes
between the posts. |

RIC outshot SRU, 23-5, in the
game. Seahawks’ starting goalkeeper junior Nicole Ferreira
(Tiverton, RI) made three saves and allowed five goals in the
first half. Freshman netminder Michelle Chabot (Waterboro, ME)
made three saves and allowed three goals in the second half. |

In upcoming action, RIC will
host Western Connecticut on Saturday, Oct. 8 at noon. Salve Regina
will play at Gordon on Saturday, Oct. 8 at noon. |
