Burgess and Teixeira lead RIC to victory

Rhode Island College opened up to a 1-0 lead at the 17:55 mark and never looked back.  Freshman forward Tyrell Burgess (Smiths, Bermuda/Wilbraham & Monson) opened up the scoring with a goal off a rebound from junior midfielder Nic Rossi’s (North Kingston, RI/Bishop Hendrickson) shot.  At 32:47, senior captain Kyle Teixeira (Warren, RI/Mt. Hope) scored what proved to be the game winning goal off of a breakaway.  After the intermission, Rhode Island College picked up where they left off, with Tyrell Burgess’s second goal of the afternoon at 46:10.  Three minutes later, Kyle Teixeira scored his second goal of the afternoon.

The Nighthawks were led by freshman forward John Mawson (Amherst, MA/Amherst) scoring his team-high 7^th goal of the season at 54:05 off a feed from senior captain Alex Pires (Boston, MA/Madison Park).  Junior goalkeeper Andres Gutierrez (Revere, MA/Revere) was heavily tested recording seven saves in 66:36 minutes of action.

Rhode Island College improves to 6-4-1 on the year, while Newbury drops to 4-5. The Nighthawks return to action Saturday at Elms College; game time is 1:00.
