Suffolk drops non-conference match to Rhode Island |

Suffolk lost its second straight match, this time to Rhode Island
College, 3-0, at home Tuesday night. The win gave Rhode Island an
18-12 record, while Suffolk dropped to 7-14. |

Rhode Island won the first game, 30-22. Rhode Island took a 9-7 lead
on two Sherri Heard kills and two Kristy Nix kills. Already leading
14-12, RI went on a 6-1 run to make it 20-14. Rhode Island ended it
from there outscoring Suffolk 10-8. |

Rhode Island took game two, 30-21. RI grabbed an early 8-4 lead on
four kills by Miga. With RI leading 12-10, Suffolk went on an 8-1 run
highlighted by three Kristen Conrad (Hanover, MA) points. Suffolk went
out to a 16-13 lead. With the Rams leading 17-15, RI open up the
scoring with an 11-1 run to make it 24-17. Miga added another four
points during the run. Rhode Island’s Heard and Mikaela Smith combined
on a point to end the game. |

Rhode Island won the third and final game, 30-24. RI went ahead 10-6
on kills by Heard and Brooke Bryant. Suffolk then went on a 6-0 run to
take a 12-10 lead. Suffolk held a 15-13 lead until RI went on a 6-0
run of their own to take a 19-15 lead on two more Miga points. The
Rams answered the run with a 5-0 run on two Conrad kills to take a
20-19 lead. Later, with Suffolk down 25-24, Rhode Island went on a
match ending 5-0 run to earn the victory. |
