RIC DROPS ANCHOR ON PSU WITH FOUR-GOAL
EXPLOSION

Providence, RI—Rhode
Island College scored four unanswered goals in the second half, coming
back from a 2-0 deficit, to defeat Plymouth State University, 4-2, in
collegiate women’s soccer action. The Anchorwomen improve their
overall record to 10-4, tying the program record for wins in a season,
and are now 3-1 in the Little East Conference. The Panthers fall to
3-10-1 overall and 1-4 in the LEC. |

RIC sophomore forward
Jessica Cardinal (Harrisville,
RI) scored the
team’s first goal in the 57th minute and the go-ahead
marker in the 69th minute. Senior back Katie Benevides
(North Dighton, MA) scored the tying goal in the 61st
minute, launching a looping shot from 45 yards out that PSU senior
goalkeeper Hayley Quinones (Waitsfield, VT) misplayed.
Sophomore forward Gina Calenda (Warren, RI) also scored 27
seconds after Cardinal’s second goal to round out the Anchorwomen’s
offensive output. Calenda, sophomore midfielder Leah Hayes
(Coventry, RI) and junior forward Erika Haaland (North
Dartmouth, MA) notched assists in the win. Freshman goalkeeper
Krissie Pyzynski (Bristol, CT) made three saves to improve her
record to 10-4. |

PSU sophomore forward
Jaimee Coombs (Peabody, MA) and junior midfielder Kelsey
McBride (Brookline, NH) scored in the ninth and 52nd
minute, respectively, for the Panthers. Quinones made three saves in
the loss as her record dips to 3-9-1. |

In upcoming action, RIC will
host Western Connecticut on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 3:30 p.m. The Panthers
will host Brandeis on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 4 p.m. |
