Providence, RI—Fifth-seeded
Southern Maine downed third-seeded Keene State, 1-0, in eight innings
in games six of the 2006 Little East Conference Softball Tournament. |

The Huskies
opened the bottom of the seventh inning with a senior first baseman
Caterina Riitano (Sangerville,

to second on a freshman right fielder Katie Martell’s (Wilmington,

in the hole at shortstop. Sophomore pitcher Katie Mainville
(Coopers Mills, ME) grounded out to third and advanced both
runners. Sophomore second baseman Evon Hudspeth (Hampden,
ME) singled into center
field to bring home Riitano with the game-winning run. |

having defeated second-seeded Eastern Connecticut, 2-0, yesterday
