Jones Overpowers Coast Guard in, 9-4, RIC Win

Island College freshman pitcher
Kyle Jones
(Middleboro, MA)
helped the Anchorwomen earn a 9-4 win over Coast Guard in collegiate
baseball action on Tuesday afternoon. Jones held the Bears to just
three hits and one run, while striking out six, over seven innings of
work to earn his first collegiate victory (1-2). Jones had a no-hitter
through the game’s first five frames.

The Anchormen jumped all over Coast Guard in the first two frames,
scoring seven runs off of freshman pitcher
Kevin Thomas
(Milford, MA),
who took the loss (0-1). RIC capitalized on Thomas’ four walks and
chased the rookie after and inning-plus of work.

RIC freshman left fielder
Chris O’Connors
(North Kingstown, RI),
the reigning Little East Conference Baseball Rookie of the Week,
posted another solid effort, with a 2-for-3, three runs scored and one
RBI performance. Freshman center fielder
Brian Burrows
(Smithfield, RI)
went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Junior right fielder
Mike
Naylor (Warwick, RI)
went 1-for-3 with three RBI, including a two-RBI triple in the fourth
inning.

Coast Guard senior pitcher
Ryan Crose
(Morris, IL)
threw three innings of scoreless relief and went 2-for-2 with two RBI
in a losing effort.

|
In upcoming action, RIC will play at Salem State on Thursday, Apr. 30
at 3 p.m.
