Bridgewater, MA – In
collegiate women’s lacrosse action this afternoon in Bridgewater,
senior midfielder Corinne Baker (Mansfield, MA) registered a
season-high six goals and added an assist, and junior midfielder
Kathryn Sweeney (Norwood, MA) potted a season-high five goals, to
lead the host Bears of Bridgewater State College to a 17-8 victory
over Rhode Island College. |

The Bears, who improved to 2-2 on the
season with their second straight win, used a 6-0 run midway through
the first half to jump out to a commanding 10-3 lead. Sweeney
highlighted the six-goal outburst as she netted three of her five
goals during the run. BSC held a 12-4 advantage at the intermission
and then proceeded to score the first three goals of the second half
to take their largest lead of the game at 15-4. |

Also leading
the offensive attack for the Bears were junior attack Alicia
Spolidoro (Duxbury, MA) and sophomore midfielder Alison
Gugliotta (Norwood, MA). Spolidoro scored a pair of goals and
added a season-high three assists, while Gugliotta chipped in with two
goals. |

Senior
Melissa Settipani (Gloucester, MA) faced 22 shots and made 13
saves in goal, as she helped the Bears hold RIC scoreless for a 30
minute stretch from the 10:55 mark of the first half until the 10:33
mark of the second half. Senior Teresa Soderholm (Durham, NH)
led all players with nine ground balls controlled. Soderholm also got
into the scoring summary as she registered an assist. |

Junior
midfielder Caitlin Gavin (Portsmouth, RI) and sophomore
midfielder Melissa Reggio (Commack, NY) provided the scoring
for RIC as the duo combined for all eight goals. Gavin scored four
goals and registered two assists, while Reggio netted four goals to go
along with an assist. Sophomore netminder Sydney Culbertson
(North Kingstown, RI) took the loss in goal for the Anchorwomen as she
faced 28 shots and registered nine saves. |

BSC is back
in action on Monday afternoon as the Bears travel to scenic Babson
Park, Massachusetts to take on the Beavers of Babson College. Game
time is 4 o’clock. Rhode Island College heads to Salve Regina
University on Monday to face the Seahawks at 4 PM as well. |
