RIC TAKES TWO FROM CURRY; UPS
RECORD TO 13-7
Sitnik & Ponte Shine in Anchorwomen Victories

Providence, RI—Rhode
Island College swept a doubleheader from Curry College in collegiate
in softball action on Thursday afternoon. The Anchorwomen took game
one in their last at bat, 6-5, and downed the Colonels, 9-1, in five
innings in the second contest. RIC is now 13-7, while Curry falls to
14-11. |

RIC senior right
fielder Andree Sitnik (Lincoln,
RI) plated sophomore
third baseman Krystal Bilek (Fitchburg,
MA) with the
game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh in the first tilt. The
Colonels, who were down, 5-3, coming into their last at bat, tied the
contest up with two runs in the top half of the frame. Despite being
touched up for 11 hits, junior pitcher Nicole Riley (North
Providence, RI) went
the distance, hurling seven innings and striking out five to earn her
ninth (9-2) victory of the season. Bilek went 2-for-3 with two runs
scored and a double. Junior catcher Kristyn Alexander (East
Wareham, MA) went
2-for-3 with one run scored, one RBI and a double. Curry freshman
designated player Alysia Dimuzio (Quincy,
MA) went 4-for-4 with
one run scored, three RBI and bashed her sixth homer of the year in
game one. Junior pitcher Kim Sturgis (Saugus,
MA)
took the loss (8-6). |

The Anchorwomen
scored seven runs in the fourth and fifth innings to win game two.
Freshman pitcher Justine Burgess (Uxbridge,
MA) earned her fourth
win (4-5), allowing just three hits and one run, while striking out
four. Senior center fielder Megan Ponte (Wakefield,
RI) went 2-for-3 with
one run scored, one RBI and hit her first homer of the season. Sitnik
had another strong game, going 1-for-2 with three runs scored and an
RBI. Dimuzio homered for the Colonels, her seventh, and sophomore
pitcher Stacy Berard (Bridgewater,
MA)
took the loss (0-2) |

In upcoming
action, RIC will host a doubleheader against Little East Conference
rival Keene State on Saturday, Apr. 8 beginning at 1 p.m. |
