ANCHORMEN NOTCH FOURTH STRAIGHT WIN
RIC Notches Winning Record for the
First Time This Spring in, 5-4, Win Over Clark
|
Providence, RI—Rhode
Island College downed Clark University, 5-4, in a non-conference
matchup on Thursday afternoon. The Anchormen win their fourth straight
contest and improve to 15-14 on the season. It is the first time the
club has surpassed the .500 mark this spring. The loss drops the
Cougars to 9-21 overall.

The score was tied, 4-4, as the Anchormen headed into the bottom of
the ninth inning. Junior right fielder
Mike Naylor (Warwick, RI)
walked and then stole second base. Sophomore first baseman
Jim Connell (Smithfield, RI)
reached on an infield single that advanced Naylor to third. Freshman
catcher
Jordan Amorin (Swansea, MA)
hit a sacrifice fly to center field that plated Naylor with the
winning run. Junior reliever
Brian Farley (North Providence, RI)
came on to shut down a Cougars rally in the seventh and then pitched a
scoreless eighth. Sophomore reliever
Eric Fama (Wappingers Falls, NY)
struck two in a scoreless ninth to earn his third win (3-1) of the
season.

RIC trailed by two heading into the bottom of the seventh before tying
the game up on freshman left fielder
Chris O’Connors (North Kingstown, RI)
and freshman shortstop
Josh Cardoso (Dartmouth, MA)

O’Connors
went 4-for-5 with one run scored, two RBI and two doubles. Connell,
Cardoso and junior designated hitter
Tim Henault (East Greenwich, RI)
each recorded two hits on the day.

Clark sophomore pitcher
Miles Whitlock (Augusta, ME)
took the loss (0-3). Sophomore catcher
Joseph Silva (Westbury, NY)
drove in two runs and senior first baseman
David Hanley (Medford, MA)
recorded two hits.

In upcoming action, RIC will host Western Connecticut on Saturday,
Apr. 22 at 11 a.m.
