ANCHORMEN WRAP UP REGULAR SEASON
WITH SWEEP
Thibault & Barber Earn Wins Over Panthers

Providence,
RI—Rhode
Island College wrapped up the 2006 regular season with a sweep of
Little East Conference rival Plymouth State University. The Anchormen
took game one, 13-4, and went on to win game two, 10-7, to improve to
20-18 overall and 8-6 in the Little East Conference. The Panthers fall
to 15-24 overall and 3-11 in the LEC with the losses. |

Rhode Island
College sophomore starting pitcher Eric Thibault (Somerset, MA)
picked up his fifth (5-5) win of the season in the first contest,
throwing six innings, allowing seven hits and striking out five.
Sophomore first baseman Jim Connell (Smithfield, RI) went
1-for-3 with three RBI on a three-run homer that broke the game open
in the fourth inning. Freshman third baseman Bobby Fournier
(Dartmouth, MA) went 3-for-3 with two runs scored, three RBI and
belted his first career homer with a solo shot in the fifth. Plymouth
State sophomore pitcher Chip Hale (Londonderry, NH) took the
loss (3-5). Sophomore first baseman Josh Labossiere (Lincoln, RI)
went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, an RBI and belted his sixth home
run of the season. |

College junior pitcher Caleb Barber (Mystic, CT) earned his
team-leading sixth (6-3) win of the season in game two, throwing six
innings, allowing four runs on six hits, while striking out five.
Sophomore closer Eric Fama (Wappingers Falls, NY) struck out
the side in the ninth to earn his sixth save of the year. Freshman
left fielder Chris O’Connors (North Kingstown, RI) went 3-for-4
with three runs scored, two RBI and clouted his fifth home run of the
season. Senior second baseman Ray De La Cruz (Providence, RI)
went 2-for-5 with one run scored and three RBI to go along with his
third dinger of the year. Junior designated hitter Luis Feliz
(Cranston, RI) also hit a two-run shot. Plymouth State sophomore
pitcher Justin Flanagan (Hingham, MA) took the loss (1-5).
Sophomore catcher John Pogorzelski (Hillsborough, NH) went
3-for-4 with two RBI and a double in a losing effort. |

The 2006
Little East Conference Baseball Tournament begins on Wednesday, May 10
at top-seeded Southern Maine. The Anchormen will be the fourth seed
and will battle third-seeded Eastern Connecticut at noon. |
