Weather Ends Rhode Island College
Baseball’s Bid for ECAC Title

The 2006 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England Div.
III Baseball Championship has been cancelled due to poor weather
conditions and will not be resumed. The semi-finals and finals were to
be held today at Keene State at noon and 3 p.m. |

|
Fourth-seeded
Rhode Island College was scheduled to take on top-seeded Keene State,
while sixth-seeded Castleton State was slated to play second-seeded
Brandeis, at noon in the semi-finals. The finals would have been
played at 3 p.m. |

|
|
Head
Coach Jay Grenier’s club had advanced with a first round, 9-4,
win over fifth-seeded UMass Boston on Friday, May 19. |
|
|
|
The Anchormen, who
had their NCAA Div. III Baseball Championship hopes dashed after being
eliminated from the 2006 Little East Conference Baseball Tournament on
May 11, were making their first ECAC New England Div. III Baseball
Championship appearance in 19 years (1987). |

Rhode Island
College wraps up the 2006 season with a 21-20 overall record. The
Anchormen notch their first winning season since 2003 and won the most
games since the 1979 squad won 24 contests. |
