2006 Men’s
Tennis Season Summary
(6-8
Overall; 3-3 in the Little East Conference)

RI--Head
Coach Joe Testa’s (Career Record: 14-15) team finished the regular season at the 2006
Little East Conference Men’s Tennis Championships, hosted by UMass
Dartmouth, on Friday and Saturday, May 5-6. The Anchormen placed sixth
overall (seven teams) with a team score of 3.5. The Anchormen finished
the regular season with a 6-8 overall record and a 3-3 (third place
tie) in the Little East Conference. |

Senior co-captain Chris Furey (Cabot,
VT)
closed out his career with a 20-19 (.513) career singles record and a
24-24 (.500) career doubles record for 32.0 career points. Furey’s 24
career doubles wins ranks eighth all-time at RIC. |
|
|
|
As a senior in 2006, he was named the squad’s MVP and
went 11-5 (.688) at number six singles and 10-6 (.625) at number three
doubles for 16.0 points on the season. Furey led the team in singles
wins and points, and was tied for the team lead in doubles victories.
Furey’s 11 singles victories tied for the fifth-most wins in a single
season in program history. His ten doubles victories tied the mark for
the second-highest total in a single season in program history. His 16
points was the fifth-highest total in a single season in school
history. |

As a junior in 2005, Furey
was 1-6 (.143) in singles and 9-7 (.563) at number
three doubles for 5.5 points on the season. Furey was tied for third
on the team in doubles victories. |

|
|
As a sophomore
in 2004, he was 7-8
(.467) in singles and 5-7 (.417) in doubles for 9.5 points on the
season. |
|
|
|
As a freshman
in 2003, he was 1-0 (1.000) in singles and 0-4 (.000) in doubles for
1.0 points on the season. |
|
|
|
He is a biology
major with a minor in chemistry and a 2000 graduate of Cabot High
School. |

|
|
Senior co-captain Jason LaDuke (Warren,
RI)
closed out his career with a 2-12 (.143) career singles record and a
27-31 (.466) career doubles record for 32 career points. LaDuke’s 27
career doubles wins is tied for fifth all-time at RIC. |

|
|
As a senior in
2006, LaDuke was 1-2 (.333) in singles action and 10-6 (.625) at
number three doubles for 6.0 points. He was tied for the team lead in
doubles victories and was fourth in points.
His ten doubles victories
tied the mark for the second-highest total in a single season in
program history. |

|
As a junior in
2005, LaDuke was
9-7 (.563) at number three doubles for 4.5 points on the season. |
|
|
|
As a sophomore in 2004, he
was 0-6 (.000) in singles and 7-7 (.500) in doubles for 3.5 points on
the season. |

|
|
As a freshman
in 2003, LaDuke was 1-4 (.200) in singles and 1-11 (.083) in doubles
for 1.5 points on the season. |

|
He is an
elementary education major with a concentration in math and a 2002
graduate of Mt. Hope High School. |
|
|

Senior
Elliott LeFaiver (Warwick,
RI)
closed out his career at RIC with a 13-19 (.406) career singles record
and a 7-19 (.269) career doubles record for 16.5 career points. |

|
|
As a senior in
2006, LeFaiver was 5-11 (.313) at number two singles and 1-8 (.111) in
doubles action for 5.5 points. LeFaiver was fifth on the team in
points. |
|
|
|
As a junior in 2005, he was 8-8 (.500) at number two singles
and 6-11 (.353) at number two doubles for 11.0 points on the season.
LeFaiver was fourth on the team in singles wins and was third in
points. |
|
|
|
He is a secondary education major with a concentration in history and
a 2002 graduate of Toll Gate High School. Prior to coming to RIC,
LeFaiver played two seasons of tennis while at the Community College
of Rhode Island in 2003 and 2004. |

|
Junior Tauquir Puthawala (Lincoln,
RI)
was 3-11 (.214) at number three singles and 1-12 (.077)
at number one doubles for 3.5 points on the season. |

|
|
Junior Richard Truchon (North
Scituate,
RI)
was 4-10 (.286) at number one singles for 4.0 points on the season. |
|
|
|
Sophomore Tom Lapierre (Pascoag,
RI)
was 7-8 (.467) at number five singles and 8-9 (.471) at number two
doubles for 11.0 points on the season. Lapierre was second on the team
in singles wins and points, and was tied for second in doubles
victories. |

Sophomore Lorne Teeter (Warwick,
RI)
was 5-11 (.313) at number four singles and 8-9 (.471) and number two
doubles for 9.0 points on the season. Teeter was tied for second on
the team in doubles wins, was third in points and was tied for third
in singles victories. |

Freshman Brian Butler (Warwick,
RI)
was 1-0 (1.000) in singles for 1.0 point on the season. |
|
|
|
Freshman Russell Gorman (East
Providence,
RI)
was a reserve on the team. |
