2006 Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Season Summary
|

Coach Kevin Jackson’s team closed out the 2006 season at the
Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships, hosted by
Springfield on May 19. RIC tied for 41st place (47 teams)
with 4.0 points. |

|
|
The Anchorwomen competed at the New England Div. III Championships,
hosted Springfield on May 6. RIC tied for 18th place (28
teams) with 9.0 points. |
|
|
|
RIC competed at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance
Championships, hosted by UMass Dartmouth on Apr. 29. RIC placed fifth
overall (ten teams) and fourth (five teams) in the Little East with
58.0 and 64.0 points, respectively. |

|
|
Senior Dana Skorupa (Cumberland, RI) closed out her career
earning All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 100 and 200 meters, the
long jump and as part of the 4x400 meter relay team. Skorupa placed
first in the 100 and 200 meters, as well as the long jump, with times
of 12.80 and 26.27, respectively, and a new school-record
distance of 5.37 meters at the LEC/MASCAC Alliance Championships on
Apr. 29. She placed seventh as part of the 4x400 meter relay team with
a time of 4:52.53. Skorupa placed seventh in the long jump with a leap
of 5.01 meters at the Solomon Husky Invitational on Apr. 15. She
placed first in both the 100 and 200 meters, with times of 12.83 and
27:03, respectively, and recorded a fifth place finish in the long
jump with a leap of 4.84 meters at the Bryant Invitational on Apr. 8.
She placed second in both the 100 and 200 meters with times of 12.30
and 26.30, respectively, and placed first in the long jump with a leap
of 4.96 meters at the Rhode Island College Invitational on Apr. 1. She
placed first in the long jump with a distance of 4.96 meters and 13th
in the 400 meters with a time of 1:03.38 at the Snowflake Classic on
Mar. 25. She was named the Little East Conference Women’s Track
Athlete of the Week twice on the season. |

As a junior in 2005, Skorupa
competed in two events at the ECAC Div. III Championships. She placed
15th in the preliminaries of the 100 meters with a time of
12.87 and 14th in the 200 meters with a time of 26.88.
Skorupa earned All-New England honors in both the 100 and 200 meters.
Skorupa placed fourth in the 100 meters with a time of 13.18. She
placed second in the 200 meters with a time of 26.20 at the New
England Div. III Championships. She earned All-Alliance/Little East
honors in four events. She placed second in the 100 meters, first in
the 200 meters and sixth as part of the 4x100 meter relay with times
of 12.72, 26.48 and 52.89, respectively, as well as third in the long
jump with a leap of 4.92 meters at the Little East Conference/MASCAC
Alliance Championships. Skorupa placed third in the 100 meters and
second in the 200 meters with times of 13.08 and 27.35, respectively,
as well as seventh in the long jump with a leap of 4.77 meters at the
Solomon Husky Invitational. She placed sixth in both the 100 and 200
meters with times of 12.98 and 26.51, respectively, at the Albany
Invitational. She placed first in both the 100 and 200 meters with
times of 12.72 and 26.39, respectively, and fourth in the long jump
with a leap of 15’09.00” at the Bryant Invitational. Skorupa placed
third in the 100 meters and seventh in the long jump with results of
13.12 and 15’07.00”, respectively, at the Snowflake Classic. |

As a sophomore in 2004, she placed 11th in the preliminary
round of the 100 meters with a time of 12.64 and 19th in
the 200 meters with a time of 26.19 at the ECAC Championships. She
placed 11th in the preliminary round of the 100 meters and
14th in the 200 meters with times of 12.75 and 26.20,
respectively, at the New England Open Championships. Skorupa earned
All-New England honors in the 100 meter dash, placing fifth with a
time of 13.09 at the N.E. Div. III Championships. Skorupa earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors in five events at the LEC/MASCAC
Alliance Championships. She placed first in the 200 meters with a
season-best time of 25.72, second in 100 meters with a season-best
time of 12.51, fourth as a part of the 4x100 meter relay team with a
time of 51.20, third as a member of the 4x400 meter relay team with a
time of 4:24.63 and fourth in the long jump with a season-best
distance of 16’04.25’’. She placed fourth in the 100 meters with a
time of 12.71 and fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 26.40 at the
Solomon Husky Invitational. She finished first in the 100 meters with
a time of 12.71, first in the 200 meters with a time of 26.38 and
third in the long jump with a distance of 4.80 meters at the Bryant
College Invitational. She swept her two events finishing first in the
100 meters with a time of 13.15 and first in the 200 meters with a
time of 26.89 at the RIC Invitational. She placed eighth in the 200
meters with a time of 26.63 at the Snowflake Classic. |

As a freshman in 2003, Skorupa placed 24th in the 400 meter
hurdles with a time of 1:08.87 at the ECAC Div. III Championships.
Skorupa placed ninth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.43
at the New England Div. III Championships. She earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors in four events at the 2003 Little East
Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships. She placed fourth in the 100
meters with a time of 13.01 and sixth in the 400 meter hurdles with a
time of 1:09.42. Skorupa placed third as part of the 4 x 100 meter
relay and second as part of the 4 x 400 meter relay with times of
52.34 and 4:16.15 respectively. She placed 12th in the 400
meter hurdles with a time of 1:09.06 at the Bernard Solomon Husky
Invitational. She placed third in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of
1:08.97 and fifth in the 100 meters with a time of 13.25 at the
Bridgewater State College Invitational. Skorupa placed second in the
100 meters with a time of 12.80 and third in the 400 meter hurdles
with a time of 67.60 at the RIC Invitational. She placed 11th
in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:10.11 at the Husky Spring
Open. |

She is an elementary education major with a concentration in special
education and a 2002 graduate of Cumberland High School. |

Junior Maggie Wenc (Pawtucket, RI) placed 14th in
the discus and 19th in the hammer with distances of 22.16
and 26.64 meters, respectively, at the LEC/MASCAC Alliance
Championships on Apr. 29. Wenc placed 18th in the discus
with a distance of 23.03 meters at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 22.
Wenc placed 15th in the discus with a distance of 22.93
meters at the Solomon Husky Invitational on Apr. 15. She placed ninth
in the shot and sixth in the discus with distances of 6.08 and 23.75
meters, respectively, at the Rhode Island College Invitational on Apr.

Sophomore Jo-Anne Daviau (North Scituate, RI) earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 5,000 meters, placing fifth
with a time of 21:09.75, and as part of the 4x400 meter relay team,
which placed seventh with a time of 4:52.53, at the LEC/MASCAC
Alliance Championships on Apr. 29. Daviau placed 23rd in
the 1,500 meters with a time of 5:28.94 at the Silfen Invitational on
Apr. 22. She placed tenth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 21:18.39
at the Solomon Husky Invitational on Apr. 15. She placed ninth in the
1,500 meters and 12th in the 3,000 meters with times of
5:33.0 and 12:40.10, respectively, at the Rhode Island College
Invitational on Apr. 1. She placed 45th in the 1,500 meters
with a time of 5:42.23 at the Snowflake Classic on Mar. 25. |

Freshman Hannah Clark (Attleboro, MA) earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 10,000 meters, placing fifth
with a time of 52:48.31, and as part of the 4x400 meter relay team,
which placed seventh with a time of 4:52.53, at the LEC/MASCAC
Alliance Championships on Apr. 29. She placed ninth in the 800 meters
and 15th in the 3,000 meters with times of 2:52.90 and
13:43.60, respectively, at the Rhode Island College Invitational on
Apr. 1. She placed 52nd in the 1,500 meters with a time of
6:07.14 at the Snowflake Classic on Mar. 25. |

Freshman Mary Ellen Horsman (Barrington, RI) placed 19th
in the hammer with a distance of 42.21 meters at the ECAC
Championships on May 19. Horsman earned All-New England honors in the
hammer, placing fifth with a distance of 44.83 meters at the N.E. Div.
III Championships on May 6. She earned All-Alliance/Little East honors
in the hammer, placing second with a distance of 42.85 meters at the
LEC/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Apr. 29. She placed fourth in the
hammer with a distance of 42.46 meters at the Silfen Invitational on
Apr. 22. Horsman placed third in the hammer with a distance of 43.86
meters at the Solomon Husky Invitational on Apr. 15. She placed third
in the hammer with a distance of 38.94 meters at the Bryant
Invitational on Apr. 8. She placed first in the hammer and ninth in
the discus with distances of 40.10 and 17.00 meters, respectively, at
the Rhode Island College Invitational on Apr. 1. Horsman placed third
in the hammer with a distance of 42.81 meters at the Snowflake Classic

Freshman Kathryn Lewandowski (Pawtucket, RI) placed sixth in
the 100 meters and 13th in the 200 meters with times of
14.00 and 30.20, respectively at the Rhode Island College Invitational
on Apr. 1. Lewandowski tied for 18th place with a time of
14.50 in the 100 meters at the Snowflake Classic on Mar. 25. |

Freshman Ashley Nyzio (Pawtucket, RI) earned All-ECAC honors in
the javelin, placing fifth with a distance of 38.21 meters at the ECAC
Championships on May 19. Nyzio placed sixth in the javelin with a
distance of 36.96 meters at the New England Open Championships on May
13. She earned All-New England honors in the javelin, placing fourth
with a distance of 38.18 meters at the N.E. Div. III Championships on
May 6. She earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the javelin,
placing first with a distance of 39.61 meters at the LEC/MASCAC
Alliance Championships on Apr. 29. Nyzio placed third in the javelin
with a distance of 32.24 meters at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 22.
She placed first in the javelin with a distance of 36.18 meters at the
Solomon Husky Invitational on Apr. 15. She placed seventh in the
javelin with a distance of 32.18 meters at the Bryant Invitational on
Apr. 8. Nyzio placed first in the javelin with a distance of 34.12
meters at the Rhode Island College Invitational on Apr. 1. She placed
sixth in the javelin with a distance of 33.64 meters at the Snowflake

Freshman Jessica Peters (Chepachet, RI) earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors as part of the 4x400 meter relay team,
which placed seventh with a time of 4:52.53 at the LEC/MASCAC Alliance
Championships on Apr. 29. She also placed 31st in the 200
meters with a time of 32.32. She placed 15th in the 400
meters with a time of 1:21.24 at the Solomon Husky Invitational on
Apr. 15. Peters placed 12th in the 200 meters with a time
of 32.73 at the Bryant Invitational on Apr. 8. She placed 17th
in the 200 meters with a time of 32.30 and 12th in the long
jump with a distance of 3.50 meters at the Rhode Island College
