Island College junior pitcher Eric Thibault (Somerset, MA) and
Assistant Baseball Coach Scott Virgulak (West Greenwich, RI)
each had outstanding seasons in the New England Collegiate Baseball
League (NECBL) this summer. |

Thibault, who was
a closer for the North Adams Steeplecats (MA), was selected to play in
the annual NECBL All-Star Game, which was played in Keene, New
Hampshire on July 24. Thibault was the second-leading vote-getter
among pitchers. Thibault appeared in 14 games and recorded eight
saves. He was 0-2 with a 3.24 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 16.2 innings of
work during the regular season. The Steeplecats were eliminated from
the NECBL playoffs in their Divisional Series by the Torrington
Twisters. As a sophomore in 2006 for RIC, Thibault
appeared in 13 games,
starting all of them. He was 5-6 with a 5.49 ERA and 61 strikeouts in
80.1 innings pitched. Thibault led the team in both innings pitched
and strikeouts and was second in wins. He led all starting pitchers in
ERA. He was named the Little East Conference Baseball Pitcher of the
Week once on the season. |
