ANCHORMEN DEFEAT SALEM STATE, 92-79
Yarbrough’s 21 points off the bench keys comeback |

Providence, RI—Rhode Island College downed Salem State, 92-79, in
a non-conference matchup at The Murray Center on Tuesday evening. RIC,
which trailed by as many as 12 points in the second half, went on a
16-6 run to tie the game, 55-55, with 9:42 remaining. Two minutes
later, RIC went on a 15-0 run to build a ten-point lead, which it
never relinquished, as the Anchormen cruised to a 13-point victory.
The Anchormen improve to 2-1, while the Vikings fall to 1-2 on the
season. |

The bench was
the key for the Anchormen in the second half as sophomore guard
Davon Yarbrough (New Haven, CT) scored a team-high 21 points to go
along with four boards, four assists and a steal. Junior guard
Kamari Williams (Springfield, MA) and senior guard Kevin
Payette (Woonsocket, RI) had 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Junior guard Kinsey Durgin (Greenwood, ME) had eight points,
five boards and three assists. |

Salem State had
three players post double-doubles, led by junior guard Eric Downie
(Medford, MA) who posted game-highs of 23 points and 12 rebounds.
Junior center Joseph Walker (Waltham, MA) had 12 points and 11
rebounds, while junior forward Brandon McCombs (Springfield, MA)
had 11 points and 11 boards. |
