GRENDAL’S
BUZZER-BEATER SINKS RIC
Junior Establishes New School Rebounding Record |

Providence, RI—Salve
Regina University junior forward Matt Grendal (Foxboro,
MA)
grabbed a
missed shot and hit a lay-up as time expired to give the Seahawks a
74-72 win over Rhode Island College in collegiate basketball action. |

|
Grendal was
a dominant force all game with 25 points, 24 rebounds and three
assists in the win. The 24 boards are a new Salve Regina school record
for a single game. |
|
|
|
RIC, which
trailed by ten points with 1:30 remaining, clawed its way back to tie
the game at 72-72 with 6.8 seconds left in regulation on a junior
guard Kamari Williams (Springfield, MA) three-pointer.

|
|
On the
ensuing inbounds play, Seahawks senior guard Matt Coute (Somerset,
MA)
took the ball the length of the floor and drove baseline. His shot was
blocked by RIC junior center John Weir (Danbury,
CT),
but Grendal came in, caught the ball and scored the game-winning
bucket as the horn sounded. |

SRU junior
forward Jon Hazzard (North
Kingstown, RI)
and sophomore guard Andrew Rego (Little
Compton,
RI)
had 14 and 12 points, respectively. |

|
|
RIC had
four players score in double figures, led by senior guard Kevin
Payette’s (Woonsocket, RI) 15 and Williams and junior guard
Kinsey Durgin’s (Greenwood, ME) 14 apiece. |

|
In upcoming
action, RIC will host Plymouth State on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 3 p.m. |
