2005 Rhode Island College
Women’s Soccer Season Summary
|
(10-8 Overall; 3-4 in the Little
East Conference)
|

Providence, RI--Head
Coach Ryan Angel’s (Career Record: 38-54-3) team
finished the 2005 season with a 10-8 overall record and a 3-4 (fifth
place) mark in the Little East Conference. The 10-8 record was the
best mark in program history, as the team recorded a .556 winning
percentage. The team’s ten victories tied last season’s squad for the
most in the program’s 11-year history. RIC also posted its third
winning season ever. As a team, the Anchorwomen set new program
records for assists (29) in a season and equaled the most consecutive
wins (six) in a season. |

Senior
defender Katie Benevides (North
Dighton, MA)
played in
75 games, starting 70 of them. She closes out her career with two
goals and one assist for five career points. |
|
|
|
As a senior
in 2005, Benevides played in 18 games, starting 16 of them. She had
one goal and one assist for three points. |
|
|
|
As a junior
in 2004, she played in 19 games, starting 16 of them. |
|
|
|
As a
sophomore in 2003, Benevides played in 20 games, starting all of them. |
|
|
|
As a
freshman in 2002, she played in 18 games, starting all of them. She
had one goal for two points. |
|
|
|
She is a
social work major with a minor in psychology and a 2002 graduate of
Dighton-Rehoboth High School. |
|
|
|
Junior
midfielder/defenseman Caitlin Gavin (Portsmouth,
RI)
played in
18 games, starting all of them. She had three goals and three assists
for nine points. |
|
|
|
Junior
forward Erika Haaland (North
Dartmouth, MA)
played in 18 games, starting 14 of them. She was tied for the team
lead with seven goals and added one assist for 15 points. |

|
|
Sophomore
defender Mallary Bileau (Woonsocket,
RI)
played in 18 games, starting all of them. |
|
|
|
Sophomore
midfielder Michaela Bileau (Woonsocket,
RI)
played in 18 games, starting all of them. She had three goals and one
assist for seven points. |
|
|
|
Sophomore
forward Gina Calenda (Bristol,
RI)
played in 18 games, starting 13 of them. She was tied for the team
lead with seven goals and 18 points while also adding four assists.
Calenda was named the Little East Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive
Player of the Week once on the season. |

Sophomore
forward/midfielder Jessica Cardinal (Harrisville,
RI)
played in 18 games, starting eight of them. She had five goals and one
assist for 11 points. |
|
|
|
Sophomore
defender Kerry Donahue (Rehoboth,
MA)
played in 18 games, starting 17 of them. She had two assists for two
points. |

|
Sophomore
midfielder Katie Guilbault (Chepachet,
RI)
played in eight games. |

|
|
Sophomore
midfielder Leah Hayes (Coventry,
RI)
played in
17 games, starting 16 of them. She had six assists, which was tied for
the team-high, for six points. |

defender Marissa Kielbasinski (Windsor,
CT)
played in 15 games, starting four of them. |

Sophomore
midfielder Krista MacKinnon (Exeter,
RI)
was named First Team All-Little East Conference. She played in 18
games, starting all of them. She had six goals and six assists for 18
points. Her assist and point totals tied team-highs. She was named the
team’s MVP. |

Sophomore
forward Ashley Teixeira (Warren,
RI)
played in 18 games, starting two of them. She had three goals and one
assist for seven points. |
|
|
|
Freshman
Kendra Gerrish (North
Stonington, CT)
played in 18 games, starting all of them. She had one goal and three
assists for five points. |

|
|
Freshman
midfielder Sarah Lessard (Woonsocket,
RI)
played in nine games. |
|
|
|
Freshman
goalkeeper Krissie Pyzynski (Bristol,
CT)
played in 18 games, starting all of them. She posted a 10-8 record to
go along with 96 saves, four shutouts, a .768 save percentage and a
1.60 goals against average. Pyzynski was named the Little East
Conference Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Week twice on the season. |

midfielder Ashley Reynolds (Hackettstown,
NJ)
did not play in 2005 due to a lower leg injury. |
