DANBURY, CT –
The Western Connecticut State University men's basketball team
defeated Rhode Island College, 74-70, in Little East Conference play,
tonight in Feldman Arena. |

In an evenly
matched game, Colonials (9-6, 2-4) senior guard Greg Cole (Terrytown,
NY)
tallied
24 points to lead WestConn to its second consecutive conference
victory. |

In a
back-and-forth first half, the largest lead was just seven points as
the Anchormen (8-7, 2-4) took a 7-0 lead after two minutes of play.
The Colonials chipped away at the lead and held a four-point
advantage, 31-27, at the half. |

Rhode Island
looked to be in control of the game as they held an eight point lead
with 4:35 to go in the game, but again the WestConn men would not back
down as they nailed consecutive three-pointers by sophomore center
Andrew Snell (Bogata,
NJ)
and Cole to cut the lead to two with 3:31 to play. The contest was
back and forth for the next minute until Cole drained another
three-pointer with 2:16 to go and the home team never looked back as
they took a 74-70 win. |

forward Jason Barnett (Windsor,
CT)
recorded a game high 13 rebounds. |

Rhode Island was
led by junior guard Kamari Williams (Springfield,
MA)
with 16
points. |

WestConn men travel to
Plymouth State for a Little East Conference game on Saturday, January
21. Tip off is slated for 3:00 p.m. |
