Rhode Island College Women’s Gymnastics Update #1

(0-4 Overall; 0-2 in the ECAC)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Bob Nannig’s team is 0-4 on the season and 0-2 against Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Div. III opposition.

Anchorwomen Notables

• The Anchorwomen opened the season at a quad-meet, hosted by West Chester, on Saturday, Jan. 14. RIC went 0-3 at the meet, posting a team score of 162.575, the lowest score by a RIC team in four years. The Anchorwomen were missing two starters at the meet and were adjusting to the new scoring system implemented this winter. M.I.T went 3-0 with a score of 177.500, host West Chester went 2-1 with a score of 169.075, while Cortland went 1-2 with a team score of 168.125. Freshman Debbie Granara (Malden, MA) posted the second-highest vault mark at the meet with a score of 9.450.

• RIC rebounded nicely in its meet against Div. II Southern Connecticut on Sunday, Jan. 22. Despite losing, 178.150-170.525, the Anchorwomen improved their team score by 7.950 in just over a week. Junior Melissa Jones (Cranston, RI) posted a season-high mark of 9.100 on vault, the second-highest mark on that event at the meet. Freshman Rachel Powers (South Burlington, VT) tied for the second-highest mark, with a score of 9.000, on floor at the meet. Junior Hannah Scott (Deep River, CT) posted the third-best all-around total of the afternoon with a combined score of 33.900.

• Junior Danielle Soucy (Gloucester, MA) and senior Cristy Pforr (Pembroke, MA) will captain the team this season.
