WHEATON
CAPTURES TITLE IN, 83-78, WIN AT RIC
Zukowski Named Tourney’s Most Outstanding Player |

Providence, RI—Wheaton College captured its second consecutive
Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England Men’s
Basketball Championship with an 83-78 win over Rhode Island College on
Saturday night. The sixth-seeded Lyons defeated three higher seeds
along the way to win the title. |

Wheaton led for
the majority of the game, building a 14-point cushion at one point.
The Anchormen battled back to cut the Lyons’ lead to two on a junior
guard Kinsey Durgin (Greenwood, ME) three-pointer with ten
seconds left in regulation. |
|
|
|
Wheaton junior
guard Eric Zukowski (Dracut, MA) went 4-for-4 over the final 24
seconds from the free throw line, while sophomore forward Jake Otto
(Glastonbury, CT) was 3-for-3 from the charity stripe the final 14
seconds to seal the victory. |

|
|
Zukowski led
all scorers with 29 points, to go along with four assists, two steals
and two rebounds. He was 7-for-10 from three-point land on the night.
For his efforts throughout the tourney, Zukowski was named the
tourney’s Most Outstanding Player. |

|
Senior guard
Sean Kelly (Providence, RI) broke his own school record for
assists in a game with 13, to go along with nine points, six rebounds
and three steals. Senior guard James Greenslit (Framingham, MA)
had 16 points and six boards. |
|
|
|
Durgin had 17
points to lead the sixth-seeded Anchormen. Freshmen Tirrell Hill
(Bronx, NY) and Kaseem Johnson (New Haven, CT) each had ten
points in a losing effort. |
|
|
|
Both clubs
finish the season with identical 19-10 season. |
