Rhode Island College Announces
2005-06 Winter Sports MVPs
|
|
|
|
|
|
Providence, RI--
The Rhode Island College Department of Intercollegiate
Athletics, Intramurals and Recreation held its annual Winter Banquet
at RIC’s Donovan Dining Center on Wednesday, Mar. 8 to honor those
student-athletes who participate in varsity winter athletics. Each
sport gave out their Most Valuable Player Award. |

Men’s Basketball
|
|
Senior
guard Kevin Payette (Woonsocket, RI) was named the men’s
basketball team’s MVP. He played in 29 games, starting all of them. He
averaged 12.0 points, a team-high 6.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.0
steals per game. |
|
He is a
physical education/health major and a 2001 graduate of Woonsocket High
School. |
|
|
Women’s Basketball
|
|
Sophomore
forward Colleen Feeney (Providence, RI) was named the women’s
basketball team’s MVP. She played in 26 games, starting 25 of them,
and was named to the Little East Conference Women’s Basketball
All-Defensive Team. She averaged 11.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.8
assists, 1.3 blocks and 1.0 steals per game. |

She is a
physical education/health major and a 2004 graduate of La Salle
Academy. |
|
|
Wrestling
|
|
Sophomore Mike Bonora (Nutley, NJ) was named the wrestling
team’s MVP. He placed fourth at 141 lbs. at the 2006 New England
College Conference Wrestling Association (NECCWA) Championships. He
was 16-3 at 141 lbs. with 50 takedowns, three reversals and three pins
on the season. |

He is a psychology major and a 2003 graduate of Nutley High School. |

Women’s Gymnastics
|
|
Junior Hannah Scott (Deep River, CT) was named the women’s
gymnastics team’s MVP. She is averaging scores of 8.856 on vault,
8.359 on bars, 8.559 on beam, 8.622 on floor and 34.397 in the
all-around. She’s posted season-high marks of 9.050 on vault vs.
Bridgeport on Feb. 15; 8.825 on bars vs. URI on Feb. 2; 9.300 on beam
and 35.400 in the all-around vs. MIT on Feb. 19; 9.325 on floor at the
Ithaca tri-meet on Mar. 4. |

She is a studio art major and a 2003 graduate of Valley Regional High
School. |

Men’s Indoor Track & Field
|
|
Senior
Manny Karngar (Providence, RI) was named the men’s indoor track
and field team’s MVP. He will compete in the 800 meters at the 2006
NCAA Div. III Men’s Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by
St. Olaf College (MN) on Mar. 10-11. Karngar qualified with a time of
1:53.56 in the preliminary round of the 800 meters at the New England
Championships on Feb. 25. In other action this winter, Karngar earned
All-New England honors in the 800 meters, placing third with a time of
1:56.39 at the New England Div. III Championships, hosted by Williams
on Feb. 18. He earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in both the 400
and 800 meters at the Alliance Championships, hosted by Southern Maine
on Feb. 13. |

He is a finance major and a 2002 graduate of Shea High School. |

Women’s Indoor Track & Field
|
|
Senior
Dana Skorupa (Cumberland, RI) was named the women’s indoor track
and field team’s MVP. She earned All-New England honors in the 55 and
200 meters, placing fifth in both events with times of 7.46 and 26.90,
respectively, at the New England Div. III Championships, hosted by
Tufts on Feb. 18. Skorupa was also All N.E. in the long jump, placing
fourth with a leap of 5.22 meters. She earned All-Alliance/Little East
honors in the 55 and 200 meters, placing first with times of 7.46 and
26.80, at the Alliance Championships, hosted by Southern Maine on Feb.
13. She also earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the long jump
with a leap of 5.18 meters. |

She is an elementary education major with a minor in special education
and a 2002 graduate of Cumberland High School. |
