2005-06 Wrestling Season Summary
|

Overall; 10-6 in the NECCWA; 4-2 in the Pilgrim League) |

Head Coach Jay Jones’ team closed out the 2005-06 season at
the New England College Conference Wrestling Association (NECCWA)
Championships, hosted by Wesleyan University on Saturday and Sunday,
Feb. 18-19. The Anchormen finished in 11th place with
30.5 points. RIC had two wrestlers attain All-New England status. |

|
The Rhode
Island College wrestling team posted a 14-11 overall record, was
10-6 in the NECCWA and 4-2 in Pilgrim Wrestling League action.
|
|
|
|
Senior
B.J. Atkinson (Danbury, CT) closed out his career with an
overall record of 19-39 (.328) with 93 points, including 38
takedowns, two reversals, 39 escapes, seven near-falls and ten pins. |
|
|
|
As a
senior in 2005-06, he was 2-10 at 285 lbs. with six points, seven
takedowns, one reversal and 11 escapes, despite wrestling all season
with a serious knee injury. |
|
|
|
As a
junior in 2004-05, Atkinson earned All-New England honors at 285
lbs., placing fourth at the NECCWA Championships. He was 13-14 at
285 lbs. with 66 points, 24 takedowns, 16 escapes, four near-falls
and seven pins on the season. He placed fifth at 285 lbs. at the
Roger Williams Invitational on Nov. 13. |

As a
sophomore in 2003-04, he was 0-2 at 285 lbs. |
|
|
|
As a
freshman in 2002-03, Atkinson was 4-13 at 285 lbs. with 21 points,
seven takedowns, one reversal, 12 escapes, three near-falls and
three pins on the season. |
|
|
|
He is a
communications major with a minor in marketing and is a 2001
graduate of Danbury High School. |
|
|
|
Senior
Todd Bloom (Wantagh, NY) closed out his career with an overall
record of 63-55 (.534) with 266 points, including 145 takedowns, 19
reversals, 74 escapes, 37 near-falls and 13 pins. |
|
|
|
As a
senior in 2005-06, he was 20-19 at 133 lbs. with 84 points, 48
takedowns, three reversals, 16 escapes, seven near-falls and two
pins. |
|
|
|
As a
junior in 2004-05, Bloom received the team’s Most Dedicated Award.
For the year, he was 12-10 at 133 lbs. with 48 points, 21 takedowns,
four reversals, 14 escapes, six near-falls and three pins. Bloom
placed second at 133 lbs. at the Roger Williams Invitational. |

|
As a
sophomore in 2003-04, he was 25-16 at 133 lbs. with 113 points, 61
takedowns, 11 reversals, 34 escapes, 20 near-falls and seven pins. |
|
|
|
As a
freshman in 2002-03, Bloom was 6-10 at 141 lbs. with 21 points, 15
takedowns, one reversal, 10 escapes, four near-falls and one pin. |
|
|
|
In
2001-02, he took a medical redshirt due to an illness. |
|
|
|
He is a
physical education major and a 2001 graduate of Wantagh High School. |
|
|
|
Senior
Matt Kelly (Carver, MA) closed out his career with an overall
record of 53-55 (.491) with 244 points, including 67 takedowns, 14
reversals, 84 escapes, 57 near-falls and 23 pins. |
|
|
|
As a
senior in 2005-06, Kelly was 5-11 at 157 lbs. with 19 points, seven
takedowns, one reversal, 15 escapes and 15 near-falls. |
|
|
|
In
2004-05, he was 13-10 at 149 lbs. with 61 points, 16 takedowns, five
reversals, nine escapes, 16 near-falls and seven pins on the season.
Kelly was granted a medical redshirt for an additional season. |
|
|
|
As a
junior in 2003-04, Kelly was 7-10 at 149 lbs. with 37 points, six
takedowns, one reversal, 14 escapes and four near-falls and four
pins. |
|
|
|
As a
sophomore in 2002-03, he was 23-16 at 141 lbs. with 103 points, 32
takedowns, five reversals, 29 escapes, 16 near-falls and ten pins on
the season. He placed fourth at 141 lbs. at the Doug Parker
Invitational. |
|
|
|
As a
freshman in 2001-02, Kelly was 5-8 at 141 and 149 lbs. with 24
points, six takedowns, two reversals, 17 escapes, six near-falls and
two pins. |
|
|
|
He is a
political science major and a 2001 graduate of Carver High School. |
|
|
|
Senior 165
lbs. Arty Privedenyuk (Springfield, MA) did not compete and
will receive a redshirt allowing him to return next winter. |

Junior
Andrew Algarin (Leominster, MA) was 17-10 at 285 lbs. with 63
points, 14 takedowns, three reversals, 24 escapes, three near-falls
and four pins. He placed third at 285 lbs. at the Roger Williams
Invitational, third at 285 lbs. at the Doug Parker Invitational and
sixth at 285 lbs. at the R.I.T. Invitational. |

Junior
Ian Coyne (Amston, CT) was 14-13 at 165 lbs. with 53 points, 28
takedowns, ten reversals, 39 escapes, six near-falls and two pins. |
|
|
|
Junior
Ryan DeSisto (Warwick, RI) was 6-5 at 141 lbs. with 24 points,
18 takedowns, six reversals, 12 escapes, six near-falls and one pin.
He placed sixth at 141 lbs. at the Doug Parker Invitational. |
|
|
|
Junior
Luis Feliz (Cranston, RI) was named a Second Team Pilgrim
Wrestling League All-Star. He posted a 15-6 record at 157 lbs. with
79 points, 21 takedowns, four reversals, 17 escapes, six near-falls
and a team-high ten pins. He placed sixth at 157 lbs. at the R.I.T.
Invitational. |

Ray Hanley (Wantagh, NY) was 14-14 at 125 lbs. with 67 points,
five takedowns, 12 reversals, 20 escapes, 20 near-falls and four
pins on the season. |

Eric Martell (Chepachet, RI) was 6-14 at 197 lbs. with 24
points, 15 takedowns, four reversals, 21 escapes and two pins. |
|

Colin Smith (Wading River, NY) was 3-12 at 157 lbs. with 15
points, three takedowns, four reversals, 19 escapes, three
near-falls and one pin. |

Olutosin Taylor (Copiague, NY) was 2-0 at 197 lbs. with six
points, seven takedowns, one reversal, one escape and one near-fall. |

Sophomore
Mike Bonora (Nutley, NJ) earned All-New England honors at 141
lbs., placing fourth at the NECCWA Championships. He also was named
a Second Team Pilgrim Wrestling League All-Star and earned team Most
Valuable Performer honors. On the season, Bonora was 16-3 at 141
lbs. with 69 points, 50 takedowns, three reversals, 23 escapes, nine
near-falls and three pins. Bonora, who left RIC after the 2003-04
season, re-joined the Anchormen in January. |

Ricky Boyle (North Attleboro, MA) was 0-1 at 184 lbs with
three takedowns, one reversal and one escape. |

Brad Crandall (Cranston, RI) was 2-4 at 174 lbs. with 12
points, two takedowns, two reversals, two escapes and one pin. |

Kevin Davis (Amston, CT)
was 22-21 at 174 lbs. with 77 points, 22 takedowns, eight reversals,
26 escapes, 14 near-falls and one pin on the season. He placed third
at 184 lbs. at the Roger Williams Invitational and fifth at 174 lbs.
at the R.I.T. Invitational. |

Eric Fama (Wappingers Falls, NY)
was 13-14 at 149 lbs. with 42 points, 35 takedowns, 35 escapes and
two near-falls. |

and four near-falls. |

Steve Goncalves (Cumberland, RI) earned All-New England
honors at 125 lbs., placing fourth at the NECCWA Championships. He
also was an Honorable Mention to the Pilgrim Wrestling League All-Star
Team. On
the season, he was 16-10 at 125 lbs. with 66 points, 48 takedowns,
nine reversals, 43 escapes, 11 near-falls and five pins. |

Nicholas Logan (Lowell, MA) was 8-7 at 174 lbs. with 40
points, 13 takedowns, two reversals, 11 escapes, seven near-falls
and five pins. |

points, 39 takedowns, 17 reversals, 28 escapes, 16 near-falls and
