2005-06 Mens Indoor Track & Field Season Summary

Providence, RI--Head
Coach Kevin Jacksons team closed out the 2005-06 season at the
Last Chance Meet, hosted by Yale on Saturday, Mar. 4. |
|
|
|
The Anchormen competed at the New England Div. III Championships,
hosted by M.I.T. on Feb. 17-18. RIC tied for 20th place (25
teams) with 10.0 points. |
|
|
|
RIC competed at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance
Championships, hosted by Southern Maine on Monday, Feb. 13. RIC placed
sixth overall (eight teams) and fifth (five teams) in the Little East
with 48.0 and 54.0 points, respectively. |

|
|
Senior Tim Goodwin (Warwick,
RI)
closed out his career earning All-Alliance/Little East honors in the
mile and the 4x800 meter relay at the Alliance Championships on Feb.
13. He placed eighth in the mile with a time of 4:45.61 and fifth as
part of the 4x800 meter relay squad with a time of 8:41.54. Goodwin
also placed 13th in the 3,000 meters with a time of
9:49.65. He was 17th in the 3,000 meters with a time of
9:33.20 at the Tufts Invitational on Feb. 4. Goodwin placed
first in the 5,000 meters with a school-record time of 17:06.25 at the
Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 28.
He placed 27th in the mile with a time of 4:53.04 at the
Tufts Invitational on Jan. 21. Goodwin placed eighth in the 800 meters
and tenth in the 3,000 meters with times of 2:12.36 and 9:54.92,
respectively, at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 14. He placed 26th
in the mile with a time of 4:45.22 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec.
10. |

As a junior in 2004-05, he earned All-Alliance/Little East honors as
part of the 4x800 meter relay team, which placed fifth with a time of
8:53.76 at the Alliance Championships.
Goodwin also
placed 12th
in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:52.03. He placed 20th
in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:52.58 at the Tufts Invitational.
He placed seventh in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:57.84 at the
Southern Maine Invitational. Goodwin placed 16th in the
1,000 meters with a time of 2:55.81 at the Tufts Invitational. He
placed seventh in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:31.53 and 13th
in the 800 meters with a time of 2:15.96 at the Wesleyan Invitational. |

As a sophomore in 2003-04, Goodwin earned All-Alliance/Little East
honors as part of the 4x800 meter relay team, which placed first with
a school-record time of 8:27.78 at the LEC/MASCAC Alliance
Championships. He finished 16th in the 1,000 meters with a
season-best time of 2:44.65 at the Tufts Invitational. He placed third
in the 3,000 meters with a season-best time of 9:26.06 at the Southern
Maine Invitational. Goodwin finished 32nd in the 1,500
meters with a season-best time of 4:28.51 at the Tufts Invitational.
He placed sixth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:48.43 at the
Wesleyan Invitational. He finished 11th in the mile with a
season-best time of 4:44.56 at the Yale Classic. He placed eighth in
the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:43.03 at the Alden Invitational. |

Prior to coming to RIC, Goodwin competed at Manhattan College in
2001-02. He is a communications major and a 2001 graduate of Bishop
Hendricken High School. |

Senior Manny Karngar (Providence,
RI)
closed out his career
at the NCAA
Div. III Mens Indoor Track and Field Championships, which were hosted
by St. Olaf College (MN) on Mar. 10 and 11. He placed 12th
in the 800 meters at the NCAA Championships. In preliminary action of
the 800 meters on Friday, Mar. 10, Karngar placed sixth in his heat
with a time of 1:56.88. The top two finishers in each heat, plus the
next four fastest times, advanced to the finals. Karngar, who was
appearing in his second consecutive NCAA Championships, qualified with
a time of 1:53.56 in the preliminary round of the 800 meters at the
New England Championships on Feb. 25. He leaves
Rhode
Island College holding school records in the 200, 400, 500, 600, 800
and 1,000 meters, as well as the mile. In addition, he is part of the
school record times set as part of the 4x400 meter relay and distance
medley relay teams. |

In other action this winter, Karngar placed third in the 800 meters
with a time of 1:54.10 at the Last Chance Meet on Mar. 4. He placed
ninth in the 800 meters with a time of 1:55.21 at the N.E. Open
Championships on Feb. 25. Karngar earned All-New England honors in the
800 meters with a time of 1:56.39 at the N.E. Div. III Championships
on Feb. 18. He earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 400 and
800 meters, as well as the 4x400 meter relay, at the Alliance
Championships on Feb. 13. He placed third in both the 400 and 800
meters with times of 51.37 and 1:59.71, respectively, and logged an
eighth place finish with a time of 3:37.49 as part of the 4x400 meter
relay squad. Karngar placed first in the 1,000 meters with a
school-record time of 2:30.08 at the Tufts Invitational on Feb. 4.
He placed first in the 800 meters with a time of 1:57.32 at the
Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 28. Karngar placed first in the
1,000 meters with a time of 2:33.70 at the Tufts Invitational on Jan.
21. He placed third in the 200 meters and first in the 400 meters with
times of 23.41 and 50.69, respectively, at the Wesleyan Invitational
on Jan. 14. Karngar placed first in the 800 meters with a time of
1:54.88 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 10. He placed first in the
500 meters with a time of 1:08.29 at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 3. |

As a junior in 2004-05, Karngar earned All-American honors in the 800
meters, placing fifth overall at the NCAA Div. III Mens Indoor Track
and Field Championships hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University on
Saturday, Mar. 12. He posted a time of 1:54.99 in the finals of the
800 meters, which garnered him All-American honors. Prior to that
race, he placed first in his qualifying heat with a time of 1:55.18.
Karngars quest for All-American honors started when he qualified for
the NCAA Championships with a school-record second place, 1:53.13
effort, in the preliminary round of the 800 meters at the New England
Open Championships, hosted by Boston University, on Feb. 26. |

In other action that season, Karngar earned All-New England honors in
the 600 meters, placing first with a program-record time of 1:21.12,
at the New England Div. III Championships. He earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors in four events, placing second in the
400 meters and fifth in both the 200 and 800 meters with times of
50.59, 23.56 and 2:04.42, respectively, at the Alliance Championships.
Karngar earned All-Alliance/Little East honors as part of the 4x400
meter relay team, which placed fifth with a time of 3:33.96. He placed
first in the 800 meters with a time of 1:57.02 at the Tufts
Invitational. He placed first in the 600 meters and fourth in the mile
with times of 1:22.88 and 4:30.95, respectively, at the Southern Maine
Invitational. Karngar placed first in the 800 meters with a time of
1:55.20 at the Tufts Invitational. He placed first in the 400 meters
and second in the 200 meters with times of 50.58 and 23.25,
respectively, at the Wesleyan Invitational. He placed fourth in the
400 meters with a program-tying time of 50.04 at the Harvard
Invitational. He placed second in the 800 meters with a time of
1:54.68 at the Alden Invitational. |

As a sophomore in 2003-04, he earned All-ECAC honors in the 800
meters, placing seventh with a time of 1:57.48, at the ECAC Div. III
Championships. Karngar earned All-New England honors in two events at
the N.E. Div. III Championships. Karngar placed second in the 800
meters with a season-best time of 1:54.50 and eighth as part of the
4x400 meter relay team with a school-record time of 3:28.14. He earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors in four events at the Alliance/Little
East Championships. Karngar placed third in the 200 meters with a time
of 23.27, first in the 400 meters with a season-best time of 50.35,
first in the 800 meters with a time of 1:59.22 and first as part of
the 4x400 meter relay team with a time of 3:32.97. He finished
first in the 800 meters with a time of 1:54.92 at the Tufts
Invitational. He placed second in the 800 meters with a time of
1:59.99 at the Southern Maine Invitational. Karngar placed third in
the 200 meters with a time of 23.31 and second in the 400 meters with
a time of 50.37 at the Tufts Invitational. He broke two school-records
by finishing first in the 200 meters with a season-best time of 23.14
and first in the 500 meters with a season-best time of 1:05.53 at the
Wesleyan Invitational. |

|
As a freshman in 2002-03, he broke a bone in his foot at the 2003
Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships, which ended his
season prematurely. He earned All-Alliance/Little East honors
in the 800 meters, placing first with a time of 1:55.85 and as part of
the 4 x 100 meter relay team, which placed third with a time of 44.65.
He placed 12th in the 400 meters with a time of 51.43 at
the Bernard Solomon Husky Invitational. He placed third in the 400
meters with a time of 50.73 at the Bridgewater State College
Invitational. Karngar placed first in the 800 meters with a time of
1:55.70 at the RIC Invitational. He placed third in the 1,500 meters
with a time of 4:10.30 at the Husky Spring Open. |

Senior Nick Palazzo (Johnston,
RI)
placed sixth in the weight throw with a distance of 13.98 meters at
the Last Chance Meet on Mar. 4. He placed 11th in the
weight throw with a distance of 4700.00 at the N.E. Div. III
Championships on Feb. 18. Palazzo earned All-Alliance/Little East
honors in the weight throw, placing third with a distance of 13.90
meters at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. He placed second in
the weight throw with a distance of 14.93 meters at the Southern Maine
Invitational on Jan. 28. Palazzo placed fifth in the weight throw
with a distance of 14.33 meters at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 21.

Meet on Mar. 4. Lonergan placed 18th in the 3,000 meters
with a time of 9:03.48 at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 18.
He earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the mile and as part of
the 4x800 meter relay team at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 13.
He placed seventh in the mile with a time of 4:38.17 and fifth as part
of the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 8:41.54. He also placed tenth
in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:42.69. Lonergan placed
fifth in the 3,000 meters with a school-record time of 8:52.47 at the
Tufts Invitational on Feb. 4. He placed fifth in the mile and
second in the 3,000 meters with times of 4:35.43 and 9:13.94,
respectively, at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 28. Lonergan
placed fourth in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:36.81 at the Tufts
Invitational on Jan. 21. He placed third in the mile and fifth in the
1,000 meters with times of 4:32.85 and 2:44.27, respectively, at the
Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 14. Lonergan placed 12th in
the 800 meters with a time of 2:02.74 at the Harvard Invitational on

Junior Dan Newman (Smithfield,
RI)
earned All-New England honors in the high jump, placing eighth with a
leap of 601.00. He earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the
high jump and the 4x400 meter relay at the Alliance Championships on
Feb. 13. He placed second in the high jump with a leap of 1.87 meters
and eighth as part of the 4x400 meter relay squad with a time of
3:37.49. Newman placed fifth in the high jump with a leap of 1.83
meters at the Tufts Invitational on Feb. 4. He placed first in the
high jump and third in the triple jumps with leaps of 1.87 and 11.86
meters, respectively, at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 28.
Newman placed second in the high jump with a leap of 1.88 meters at
the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 21. He placed second in the high jump
and fifth in the triple jumps with leaps of 1.87 and 11.53 meters,
respectively, at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 14. Newman placed
fourth in the high jump with a leap of 1.90 meters at the Harvard
Invitational on Dec. 10. He placed second in the high jump with a leap

part of the 4x800 meter relay squad, which placed fifth with a time of
8:41.54. He placed fifth in the 600 meters with a time of 1:30.36 at
the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 28. Ahnrud placed 16th
in the 500 meters with a time of 1:15.25 at the Tufts Invitational on

a distance of 11.54 meters at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan.

Sophomore Mike Van Gieson (Foster, RI) earned All-New England
honors in the 600 meters with a time of 1:23.89 at the N.E. Div. III
Championships on Feb. 18. Van Gieson earned All-Alliance/Little East
honors in the 600 meters and the 4x400 meter relay at the Alliance
Championships on Feb. 13. He placed first in the 600 meters with a
time of 1:23.96 and eighth as part of the 4x400 meter relay with a
time of 3:37.49. He placed sixth in the 200 meters and fourth in the
400 meters with times of 24.86 and 53.15, respectively, at the
Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 28. Van Gieson placed sixth in the
400 meters with a time of 53.79 at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 21.
He placed tenth in the 200 meters and second in the 400 meters with
times of 24.84 and 53.18, respectively, at the Wesleyan Invitational
on Jan. 14. Van Gieson placed 20th in the 500 meters with a
time of 1:13.33 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 10. He placed

placed 23rd in the preliminary round of the 55 meters and
27th in the 200 meters with times of 7.67 and 27.86,
respectively, at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. Fox placed
sixth in the 55 meters with a time of 7.71 at the Southern Maine
Invitational on Jan. 28. He placed 30th in the 200 meters
with a time of 26.90 at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 21. Fox placed
12th in the 55 meters and 19th in the 200 meters
with times of 7.64 and 27.83, respectively, at the Wesleyan
Invitational on Jan. 14. |

RI)
placed 18th in the preliminary round of the 55 meters with
a time of 7.12 and ninth in the long jump with a leap of 6.13 meters
at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. |

Freshman David Simpson (West Warwick, RI) earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors in the pole vault with a seventh
place, 2.89-meter effort and as part of the 4x400 meter relay team,
which placed eighth with a time of 3:37.49, at the Alliance
Championships on Feb. 13. Simpson also placed 15th in the
600 meters with a time of 1:32.00 at the same meet. He placed 32nd
in the 500 meters with a time of 55.38 at the Tufts Invitational on
Feb. 4. Simpson placed sixth in the 600 meters with a time of 1:31.91
at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 28. He placed 13th
in the 400 meters with a time of 55.94 at the Tufts Invitational on
Jan. 21. Simpson placed eighth in the 600 meters with a time of
1:31.32 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 14. He placed 15th
in the 500 meters with a time of 1:10.29 at the Harvard Invitational
