Funk, Gurvich and Marchant to
Captain Rhode Island College Women’s Tennis
|

Providence,
RI—Rhode
Island College has named senior Tara Marchant (North
Scituate, RI),
junior Kseniya Gurvich (Barrington,
RI)
and sophomore Meg Funk (Oakdale,
CT) as
women’s tennis team captains for the 2006 season. |
|
|
|
As a junior in 2005, Marchant
was the Little East Conference Champion at
number three doubles. She was 11-3 in singles (.786) and 14-4 (.778)
at number three doubles for 18.0 points on the season. Marchant was
tied for third on the team in both singles and doubles victories. |
|
|
|
As a sophomore in 2005, Gurvich
was the Little East Conference Champion at
number four singles. She was 8-3 (.727) in singles for 8.0 points on
the season. She was fourth on the team in singles wins and sixth in
points. |
|
|
|
As a freshman in 2005, Funk
was the Little East Conference Champion at
number three singles and number two doubles. She was 13-1 (.929) in
singles and 14-2 (.875) in doubles for 20.0 points on the season. Funk
was tied for the team lead in singles victories, was second in total
points and tied for third in doubles wins. She was named Little East
Conference Rookie of the Week once on the season. |

Head Coach Kelly
Chartier’s team opens the 2006 season at home against in-state
rival Salve Regina on Saturday, Sept. 2 at noon. RIC has won the
Little East Conference Regular Season Title the past three seasons and
won the LEC Tournament twice in that timespan. |
