SECOND HALF SURGE SINKS ANCHORMEN
Wildcats Score Twice in
Final Eight Minutes to Steal Victory

Providence, RI—Junior
midfielder Michael Gliniecki (Baltimore, MD) scored on a free
kick from 30 yards out in the 87th minute to lift Johnson &
Wales University past Rhode Island College, 2-1, in collegiate men’s
soccer action. |

|
Gliniecki’s
goal came just five minutes after freshman midfielder Eric Flath
(Warwick, RI) tied the game at 1-1 in the 82nd minute
off a junior defender Joel Reynolds (Middletown, PA) pass. |
|
|
|
The
Wildcats trailed, 1-0, after RIC senior midfielder Nic Rossi (North
Kingstown, RI) netted his first goal of the season in the 16th
minute. The Wildcats regrouped at the intermission and pressured the
Anchormen for the entire second half. JWU outshot RIC, 14-7, in the
second frame and, 18-16, in the game. |

JWU senior
goalkeeper Brenton Blanchard (Saline, MI) made seven saves to
improve his record to 4-3 on the season. RIC junior goalkeeper
Jadon Neves (Warren, RI) made four stops as his record dips to
1-1. |

The loss
spoiled the evening for the Anchormen who were playing their first
night game in school history on the RIC campus. The Anchormen also
suffer their first loss of the season and fall to 3-1. The Wildcats
win their fourth consecutive game and get over the .500 mark for the
first time this fall with a 4-3 mark. |

action, RIC will play at UMass Boston on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 1 p.m. |
