ANCHORWOMEN TAKEOVER FIRST PLACE
IN WIN OVER PSU

Plymouth, NH— Defending Little East Conference champion Rhode Island College took control of the 2006 LEC women’s tennis regular season race Saturday afternoon, breezing to an 8-1 victory over Plymouth State University on Senior Day at the P.E. Center Courts. It was RIC’s 11th consecutive win of the year.

Sophomore Meg Funk (Oakdale, CT) and junior Sasha Doonan (Pawtucket, RI) led the Anchorwomen with two key wins each. They teamed up for an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles, and captured straight-set wins at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively. Junior Kseniya Gurvich (Barrington, RI) and freshman Julie Bannon (Narragansett, RI) were also double winners for RIC, together at No. 3 doubles and at Nos. 4 and 6 singles, respectively.

Other winners for the Anchorwomen were senior Tara Marchant (North Scituate, RI) at No. 3 singles and freshman Jackie Eastman (Mansfield, MA) at No. 5 singles.

In upcoming action, RIC will play at Suffolk on Wednesday, Oct. 11.
