BRIDGEWATER, MA --Rhode Island
College senior forward Chris Childs (Cranston, RI) tallied the
game-winning goal, and junior forward Jimmy Hernandez
(Providence, RI) added his team-leading seventh goal of the
season, to lead the visiting Anchormen to a 2-0 victory over
Bridgewater State in men’s soccer action this afternoon. |

With the win, RIC, who
has won its past three matches, improves to 7-4 on the season, while
the loss drops the Bears’ record to 4-7-1. |

|
Childs broke a scoreless
tie in the 35th minute as he knocked home a loose ball well
inside the 18-yard box. Junior midfielder Julian Montoya
(North Providence, RI) started the play with a cross that was
knocked around inside the box before settling on Childs' foot.
Hernandez added a big insurance goal off a direct kick from about 20
yards out in the game’s 75th minute. |

Junior netminder
Jadon Neves (Warren, RI) earned his second shutout of the
season as he turned aside two shots in goal for the Anchormen.
Bridgewater senior John Naughton (Braintree, MA) and
junior Drew Pontbriand (Fairhaven, MA) split time in
goal for the Bears as they each played a half. Naughton registered
two saves while Pontbriand made three saves. |

1 p.m. on Oct. 14, when the Anchormen travel to Keene State College
for a Little East Conference match. |
