Anchorwomen Earn First-Ever Victory Over Bears

Providence, RI—Rhode
Island College defeated Bridgewater State, 2-0, in collegiate women’s
soccer action on Wednesday evening. It is the Anchorwomen’s first-ever
win against the Bears, who had won the previous six meetings between
the two clubs. Rhode Island College improves to 12-2 overall, while
the Bears fall to 7-4-1. |

Bridgewater
State came into the game with a 3-0-1 mark over its past four games.
Senior midfielder Caitlin Gavin (Portsmouth, RI) put the
Anchorwomen on top in the 20th minute, heading in a junior
midfielder Krista MacKinnon (Exeter, RI) corner kick.

Rhode
Island College sophomore goalkeeper Krissie Pyzynski (Bristol, CT)
made seven saves to improve her record to 11-2 and notch her third
shutout on the season. Junior defender Kerry Donahue (Rehoboth, MA)
blocked a Bridgewater State senior midfielder Katie Neary
(Abington, MA) header off a corner kick in the 83rd
minute to preserve the lead. |

forward Gina Calenda (Warren, RI) added an insurance goal for
the Anchorwomen in the 86th minute, on a touch passes from
senior forward Erika Haaland (North Dartmouth, MA) and
MacKinnon. |

State senior goalkeeper Emily Schlosser (Petersham, MA) made
five saves as her record falls to 5-4-1. |
