Despite
heavy showers throughout the match, the RIC offensive attack generated
its highest goal total of the season. The Anchormen opened the scoring
in the ninth minute, when Montoya unleashed a shot from the top right
corner of the 18-yard box. Junior netminder Mark Tiffany
(Easthampton, MA) stopped the initial shot, but could not control
the carom. Talavera raced onto the loose ball and deposited it into
the empty net. RIC increased its lead in the 29th minute, when Montoya
displayed some crafty footwork in the 18-yard box before scoring his
first of two goals on the evening. The Anchormen took a 2-0 lead into
the intermission. |

Less than
three minutes into the second stanza, Talavera recorded his fifth goal
of the season off a rebound from junior forward Jimmy Hernandez
(Providence, RI). Montoya and sophomore forward Dan Rodrigues
(Cumberland, RI) sealed the victory with insurance goals in the
60th and 87th minutes, respectively. It was Rodrigues’ first goal of
the campaign. |

to even his record at 5-5. Tiffany stopped six shots before giving
way to freshman Lucas Dexter (Acushnet, MA), who made two saves
in just over 25 minutes. |
