ANCHORMEN BLANK PLYMOUTH STATE, 2-0
Childs’ Registers Goal and
an Assist in Victory

Providence, RI—
Rhode Island College senior forward Chris Childs (Cranston, RI)
figured in on both Anchormen goals in a 2-0 win over first place
Plymouth State in a Little East Conference men’s soccer showdown. |

RIC
capitalized on a free kick from midfield in the 32nd minute
to open the day’s scoring. Junior defenseman Jameson Gonzalez
(Johnston, RI) put a kick from the sideline at midfield on to
Childs’ head. With a defender bearing down on him, Childs headed the
ball to freshman forward Jose Talavera (Providence, RI) just
outside the penalty box. Talavera then flicked it past Plymouth State
sophomore goalkeeper Tyler Shute (Deerfield, NH) for his sixth
goal of the season. |

The
Anchormen would not have to wait long for an insurance goal as Childs
tried to run down a pass that was too far in front of him. Shute came
out of the 18-yard box and tried to one-time the ball past the
oncoming Childs. Instead, the senior forward knocked down the
low-level kick and shot the ball into the open net. |

The
Anchormen outshot the Panthers, 25-16, in the game and, 13-3, in the
decisive first half. Rhode Island College junior goalkeeper Jadon
Neves (Warren, RI) made eight saves to improve his record to 7-4
and picked up his fourth shutout of the season. Shute made seven stops
as his record falls to 9-4-1. |
