STREAK AT THREE
Fleming & Haaland Lead RIC Offense in Win Over Salem State

Providence, RI—Rhode
Island College sophomore midfielder Kayla Fleming (Pawtucket, RI)
scored a goal and assisted on the game-winner, while senior forward
Erika Haaland (North Dartmouth, MA) registered two helpers, as the
Anchorwomen downed Salem State, 3-2, on Senior Day. The win stopped a
three-game losing streak for the Anchorwomen, while the Vikings suffer
their fourth consecutive loss. |

Salem State
junior forward Vanessa Lima (Boxford, MA) scored her
team-leading ninth goal in the 20th minute, shooting a
senior forward Jillian Rae (South Boston, MA) pass into the
open net. |

|
|
Rhode
Island College came back to score three unanswered goals in a
14-minute stretch to take the lead. Junior forward Lindsay Laurie
(Warwick, RI) registered her sixth goal of the season, burying a
Haaland pass in the 26th minute. Six minutes later, the
Anchorwomen unleashed a flurry of shots in the penalty box at Salem
State senior goalkeeper Christine Madden (Weymouth, MA), who
was finally beaten by Fleming in the 32nd minute. Fleming
set up junior forward Gina Calenda (Warren, RI) for what proved
to be the game-winning goal in the 40th minute. |

The Vikings
made things interesting late in the final frame when junior forward
Cerissa Grasso (Lynnfield, MA) scored on a pass from sophomore
midfielder Keira Lyons (Salem, MA) in the penalty box, but
Salem State would get no closer. |

|
RIC
freshman goalkeeper Kendra DiGiulio (Warwick, RI) made five
saves to up her record to 2-1. Madden made eight saves as her record
falls to 2-3. |

|
The
Anchorwomen improve to 13-5, while Salem State falls to 6-9-1. |
|
|
|
In upcoming
action, RIC will play at Eastern Connecticut on Saturday, Oct. 28 in
the regular season finale. The 2006 Little East Conference Women’s
Soccer Tournament begins on Tuesday, Oct. 31. |
