ANCHORWOMEN FALL, 2-1, in OT at
Eastern Connecticut
Fourth-seeded RIC to Host USM in Upcoming LEC Tournament

Willimantic, CT—Rhode
Island College finished the regular season with a 2-1 loss in overtime
to Eastern Connecticut. The Anchorwomen fall to 13-6 overall and 3-4
in the Little East Conference, while the Warriors up their record to
12-5-2 overall and 6-1 in the Little East Conference. |

The
Anchorwomen will be the fourth seed in the upcoming 2006 Little East
Conference Women’s Soccer Tournament and will host fifth-seeded
Southern Maine on Tuesday, Oct. 31. Top-seeded Western Connecticut
will host the semifinals and finals on Nov. 3 and 4, respectively.

Rhode
Island College scored in the fifth minute to take an early lead as
freshman midfielder Christina Tavana (Middletown, CT) converted
a penalty kick. RIC sophomore goalkeeper Krissie Pyzynski (Bristol,
CT) made six saves before leaving the game in the 45th
minute with an injured finger. Freshman Kendra DiGiulio (Warwick,
RI) came on for the final 38 seconds of the first half and played
the remainder of the game. |

The
Warriors evened the contest in the 58th minute as sophomore
back Nicole Gaudette (Colchester, CT) shot the ball into the
top corner on a free kick from 35 yards out. The game remained
deadlocked through regulation, but Eastern Connecticut ended the game
1:54 into the extra session as sophomore forward Kaytee Zielinski
(South Windsor, CT) tucked the ball inside the post for the
game-winner. |

DiGiulio
took the loss, making one save as her record falls to 2-2. Eastern
Connecticut sophomore goalkeeper Megan Gloster (Agawam, MA)
made two saves to improve her record to 9-3-2. |

|
|
The
Warriors outshot the Anchorwomen, 20-5. Eastern Connecticut has won
the past six meetings with RIC and is unbeaten in their last seven
contests vs. the Anchorwomen (6-0-1). |
