ANCHORWOMEN HEAD TO LEC TOURNAMENT FINAL FOR FIRST TIME IN SCHOOL

Miga’s 14 Kills Help K.O. Plymouth State

Willimantic, CT—
Senior middle hitter Erin Miga (Cranston, RI) had 14 kills and
attacked at .333, while freshman outside hitter Sharon Corriveau
(Coventry, RI) and junior setter Jeanne Rosa (Milford, CT)
combined for 42 digs to carry the No. 2 seeded Rhode Island College
women’s volleyball team into the final of the 2006 Little East
Conference Women’s Volleyball Tournament with a 30-23, 25-30, 30-28,
30-21 win over No 3 seeded Plymouth State University Friday night in
the semifinals at Francis E. Geissler Gymnasium. |

Rhode
Island (20-12) advances to the final for the first time and will meet
the winner of a late semifinal-round match between No. 1 seeded
Eastern Connecticut State University (28-9) and No. 4 seeded Keene
State College (24-12). Eastern defeated Keene in last year’s final
after eliminating Rhode Island both last year and in the 2004
semifinals. |

After the
team’s split the first two games, Rhode Island emerged with a
two-point win in Game 3 to take a 2-1 advantage. There were seven ties
in Game 3 before the Anchorwomen scored four straight points to break
from a 15-15 deadlock. The lead crested at six points twice
thereafter. Rhode Island led by a score of 29-23 before the Panthers
pulled to within 29-28. |

|
Corriveau
led RIC with 22 digs. Rosa added 20 digs and 19 assists, while senior
defensive specialist Kara Sarcione (Londonderry, NH)
contributed 18 digs. Junior right side hitter Sherri Heard
(Coventry, RI) followed Miga with 11 kills. Corriveau added nine
kills and serving 19 balls with just one error. Junior setter Amy
Souza (Tiverton, RI) followed Rosa with 19 assists. |

Eliza
Badeau
led Plymouth State with 19 kills, but committed 12 attack errors.
Kirsten Willoughby added 12 kills for the Panthers. Wendy
Dziedzic had nine kills and served 18 balls without an error.
Sarah Spears had 23 digs, while Brianna Kleckner chipped in
with 26 digs and 43 assists. |

Island had edged Plymouth in five games during the regular season. |
