Rhode Island College Softball Ranked 24^th in the Nation

Providence, RI— The Rhode Island College softball team debuted at No. 24 in the latest edition of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Div. III Top 25 Poll. The Anchorwomen have been featured in the “Receiving Votes” section of the rankings in the past three publications, raising their vote total each week.

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association Div. III Poll is voted on by eight NCAA Div. III head coaches representing the eight NCAA regions.

Under the watchful eye of Head Coach Maria Morin, Rhode Island College earned its first national ranking in the program’s history on May 10, 2006, debuting at No. 25. The Anchorwomen were ranked as high as No. 18 in the final edition of the NFCA Div. III Poll on March 31.

Rhode Island College just returned from its annual trip to the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla. with an overall record of 6-2. The Anchorwomen posted victories over two nationally ranked teams, Ramapo College and Rowan University. On March 11, Rhode Island College edged the previously seventh-ranked Roadrunners, 2-1. Freshman outfielders Jamie Mastrocola (Everett, MA) and Kelsey Souza (Braintree, MA) each knocked in a run, while senior pitcher Nicole Riley (North Providence, RI) threw a complete game without surrendering an earned run and logged five strikeouts. Two days later, the Anchorwomen shut out the 20th-ranked Profs, 4-0. Riley continued to excel on the mound, registering seven scoreless innings and limiting Rowan to just one hit, while striking out four. Junior first baseman Christie Lotti (Waterford, CT) made the most of her keen eye, scoring a pair of runs on two walks.
