SOFTBALL WEEKLY AWARDS |

Providence, RI—Rhode
Island College senior pitcher Nicole Riley (North Providence, RI)
and junior first baseman Christie Lotti (Waterford, CT) were
honored by the Little East Conference for their performances in
softball last week. |
|
|
|
Riley was named the Little East Conference Softball Pitcher of the
Week for the second consecutive week.
In five
appearances, Riley went 4-0 with four complete games and two shutouts
as the righty did not allow an earned run in 27 innings of work. She
struck out 27 batters and walked only three, while giving up 13 hits
and two unearned runs. Riley became the Rhode Island College softball
all-time wins leader (53) in a 3-1 win over Wheaton on Mar. 27,
surpassing the previous standard held by Kim Warrington ’04.
Riley recorded a season-high 13 strikeouts at Salem State, while
fanning 10 against conference foe Southern Maine. In 13 appearances on
the season, Riley has a 9-0 mark and a microscopic 0.11 ERA in 62.2
innings of work. She has struck out 69, while only surrendering eight
walks. She currently has 57 career wins and is riding a 32-game
winning streak. |

Lotti was named the Little East Conference Softball Co-Player of the
Week. She
paced the Rhode Island College offensive attack with a
.550 batting average (11-for-20) to go along with nine runs scored,
seven extra-base hits and seven RBIs in six games this past week. She
was instrumental in a conference sweep of Southern Maine going 4-for-6
with two triples, four runs scored, and three RBI. Lotti broke Jen
Sabatelli’s ’00 school record for career runs, scoring twice in
RIC’s, 10-2, win over Southern Maine in game two of a doubleheader
sweep. |

Head Coach Maria Morin’s team is ranked 21st in the
nation with a 12-2 overall record and a 2-0 mark in the Little East.
RIC has won its last seven games and 10 of its last 11. In upcoming
action, the Anchorwomen will play at doubleheader at Bridgewater State
on Tuesday, Apr. 2 beginning at
3:30 p.m. |
