Gieson & Lonergan Place First at Silfen Invitational
|

New London, CT—Head
Coach Kevin Jackson’s men’s outdoor track and field team
competed at the Silfen Invitational, hosted by Connecticut College
on Saturday, Apr. 21. The Anchormen placed fifth (16 teams) with a
team score of 71. Coast Guard won the invitational with a score of
167.50. |

Senior
Eric Lonergan (North Kingstown, RI) placed first in both the
1,500 and 3,000 meters with times of 4:00.00 and 15:54.76,
respectively. |

Junior
Mike Van Gieson (Foster, RI) placed first in the 800 meters with
a time of 1:55.52. |
|
|
|
Senior Dan
Newman (Smithfield, RI) placed second in the high jump with a
1.86-meter effort. |
|
|
|
Junior
James Polak (Smithfield, RI) placed third in the discus and 11th
in the hammer with distances of 36.73 and 34.09 meters,
respectively. |

Senior
Rich Palazzo (Johnston, RI) placed fifth in the hammer with a
distance of 47.37 meters, while freshman Kevin Leber (Newport,
RI) placed fifth in the long jump with a 6.03-meter effort. |

In upcoming
action, Rhode Island College will compete at the Little East
Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships, hosted by Fitchburg State
on Saturday, Apr. 28. |
