Men’s Tennis Season Summary |
|
Providence, RI--Head
Coach Joe Testa’s (Career record: 21-21, .500) team finished
the 2007 season with a 7-6 overall record and a placed fifth (seven
teams) at the 2007 Little East Conference Men’s Tennis
Championships. The Anchormen concluded the season on a three-match
winning streak. |

|
Senior Barry Manfredi (Westerly, RI) finished his two-year
career as an Anchorman with a 15-17 (.469) record in singles and a
19-14 (.578) mark in doubles for 24.5 career points. |
|
|
|
As a senior in 2007, he went 6-9 (.400) at No. 1 singles and 9-7
(.563) at No. 2 doubles for 10.4 points. Manfredi won the
consolation round of both the No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles
flights at the Little East Championships. He was tied for the team
lead in doubles wins and ranked fourth in points. |

|
As a junior in 2005, he was 9-8 (.529) at No. 1 singles and 10-7
(.588) at No. 1 doubles for 14.0 points on the season. Manfredi was
second on the team in points, and was tied for the lead in both
singles and doubles wins. His 10 doubles wins is tied for third
all-time at RIC for a single season. |

|
Prior to coming to RIC, Manfredi played two seasons of men’s tennis
at the Community College of Rhode Island in 2003 and 2004. |
|
|
|
He is a marketing major with a minor in management and a 2002
graduate of Westerly High School. |
|
|
|
Senior Tauquir Puthawala (Lincoln, RI) wrapped up his
four-year career as an Anchorman with a 16-30 (.348) record in
singles and a 1-28 (.034) mark in doubles for 16.5 career points. |
|
|
|
As a senior in 2007, he went 5-10 (.333) at No. 2 singles and 0-13
(.000) at No. 1 doubles for 5.0 points on the season. Puthawala lost
in the consolation finals of the No. 2 singles flight at the Little
East Championships. |
|
|
|
As a junior in 2006, he was 3-11 (.214) at No. 3 singles and 1-12
(.077) at No. 1 doubles for 3.5 points on the season. |
|
|
|
As a sophomore in 2005, Puthawala was 7-2 (.778) in singles for 7.0
points on the season. |
|
|
|
As a freshman in 2004, he was 1-7 (.125) in singles and 0-3 (.000)
in doubles for 1.0 points on the season. |
|
|
|
He is an economics and biology major with a minor in chemistry and a
2003 graduate of Lincoln High School. |
|
|
|
Junior Drew Hochman (Cranston, RI) was 1-0 (1.000) in singles
for 1.0 points on the season. |
|
|
|
Junior Tom Lapierre (Mapleville, RI) was 1-0 (1.000) in
singles and 8-6 (.571) at No. 3 doubles for 5.0 points on the
season. He lost in the Championship Match of the No. 3 doubles
flight at the Little East Championships. |

|
|
Junior Garrett Smith (Providence, RI) was 3-12 (.200)
at No. 3 singles and 0-3 (.000) in doubles for 3.0 points on the
season. Smith lost in the consolation final of the No. 3 singles
flight at the Little East Championships. |
|
|
|
Junior Lorne Teeter (Warwick, RI) was 7-8 (.467) at No. 4
singles and 9-7 (.563) at No. 2 doubles for 11.5 points on the
season. He lost in the consolation finals of the No. 4 singles
flight and teamed with Barry Manfredi to win the consolation finals
at No. 2 doubles at the Little East Championships. Teeter was tied
for the team lead in doubles wins and ranked third in both singles
victories and points. |

Junior Rolando Yotharath (Woonsocket, RI) was 8-6 (.571) at
No. 5 singles and 8-6 (.571) at No. 3 doubles for 12.0 points on the
season. He fell in the semifinals of the No. 5 singles flight and in
the Championship Match of the No. 3 doubles flight at the Little
East Championships. |

Sophomore David Haggerty (Woonsocket, RI) was 12-3 (.800) at
No. 6 singles and 2-2 (.500) in doubles for 13.0 points on the
season. Haggerty was named the team’s MVP, leading the club in both
singles wins and points. He lost in the Championship Match of the
No. 6 singles flight at the Little East Championships. Haggerty’s 12
singles victories tied for the second-highest total for a season in
program history. |

Freshman Philip Davey (Cranston, RI) was 1-0 (1.000) in
singles for 0.5 points on the season. |
|
|
|
Freshman Jawad Sefiani (Pawtucket, RI) was 0-12 (.000) at
No.1 doubles for 0.0 points on the season. |
|
|
|
Freshman Kyle Trainor (Greenville, RI) was 1-0 (1.000) in
singles and 1-0 (1.000) in doubles for 1.5 points on the season. |
