Providence,
RI—Sophomore guards Tirrell Hill (Bronx, NY) and
Cameron Stewart (Newport, RI) led Rhode Island College to a 74-63
win over Fitchburg State with 22 and 17 points, respectively. The
Anchormen stay undefeated with a 3-0 record and are off to their best
start since the 1997-98 edition also began the year with the same
mark. Rhode Island College has now won its last five home openers. |

The Anchormen found
themselves trailing by ten points with 12:23 remaining in the first
half and were 0-for-8 from beyond the three-point arc. Rhode Island
College then drained five straight treys, and nine overall, to
outscore the Falcons, 34-12 over final 12 minutes, taking a 40-28 lead
into the break. |

Rhode Island
College kept up the pressure in the second half, building a game-high
21-point lead, 68-47, with 6:54 left in the game and cruised to an
11-point victory. Six different Anchormen made at least one
three-point shot in the win. |

Stewart was a
one-man wrecking crew for the Anchormen with 17 points, eight
rebounds, six assists and five steals. He was 5-for-10 from the field
and 4-for-7 from downtown. The eight boards and six helpers were new
career highs for him. |

Hill scored a team
and career-high 22 points to go along with four rebounds, two assists
and a steal. Senior forward Brian Stanko (Swansea, MA) had 13
points on 3-for-6 shooting from three-point land. Sophomore forward
Kaseem Johnson (New Haven, CT) grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. |

Andrew Vayo (Waterville, ME) was a bright spot in a losing effort
for the Falcons with a game-high 25 points to go along with five
boards. |

In upcoming action,
Rhode Island College will open the Little East Conference schedule,
hosting rival Keene State on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 3 p.m. |
