Durgin Scores 1,000th Point in Anchormen Victory
Rhode Island College Off to Best Start in 36 Years |
|
Providence,
RI—Rhode Island College senior guard Kinsey Durgin (Greenwood,
ME) scored his 1,000th career point on a layup with
15:44 left in the second half, giving Rhode Island College the lead
for good in an 88-80 win over Bridgewater State this evening at The
Murray Center. Durgin drove baseline and made a tough layup, despite
being fouled, to become the 27th member of the Rhode Island
College 1,000 Career Point Club. |

|
|
Prior to Durgin’s
basket, the Anchormen had tied the game, 53-53, on a sophomore forward
Kaseem Johnson (New Haven, CT) jumper at the 16:49 mark. The
Anchormen then went on a 26-11 run over the next 11 minutes to put the
game away. Rhode Island College improves to 9-1 on the season, marking
the program’s best start to open a campaign in 36 years. The victory
also stopped a three-game losing streak to the Bears, who the
Anchormen had not beaten since Jan. 9, 2003. Rhode Island College,
which had not played a game in 20 days, is currently riding a six-game
winning streak. |

|
|
Durgin logged a
double-double with a team-high 17 points and 11 rebounds, to go along
with three assists and a steal. He currently has 1,004 career points.
Durgin was also a key factor defensively, holding Bridgewater State
senior guard Tom Cuddihy (Scituate, MA) to 4-for-14 shooting on
the night. |
|
|
|
Rhode Island
College trailed by as many as 11 points in the first session. Senior
forward Brian Stanko (Swansea, MA) sparked the Anchormen’s
comeback, coming off the bench to drain three three-pointers. He
finished the game with 15 points and four rebounds. Sophomore guard
Tirrell Hill (Bronx, NY) and senior guard Kamari Williams
(Springfield, MA) also scored in double figures with 13 and 11
points, respectively. |
|
|
|
Bridgewater State
senior forward Derek Thompson (Hyannis, MA) was a force on both
ends of the floor with a game-high 25 points to go along with seven
boards and two steals. Sophomore forward Roland Millien (Stoughton,
MA) posted a double-double with 16 points and a game-high 13
rebounds. |
|
|
|
The win over the
Bears marks the second 2006 Conference Champion the Anchormen have
defeated this season (Endicott). |

In upcoming action,
Rhode Island College will resume the Little East Conference schedule,
