RAMS CAPTURE UNOFFICIAL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
GURNEY STARS FOR URI IN TWO VICTORIES |

Providence, RI—The University of Rhode Island captured the
unofficial collegiate women’s gymnastics Rhode Island State
Championship, downing in-state rivals Brown University and host Rhode
Island College with a team score of 184.825. The Rams earned victories
over the Bears, 184.425-180.150 and the Anchorwomen, 184.425-170.250,
to stay unbeaten with a 3-0 record on the season. |

URI
senior Kelly Gurney (Heathrow, FL) dominated the meet,
capturing the top scores on vault, 9.525, bars, 9.675, floor, 9.650
and the all-around, 38.550. She logged the second-highest score on
beam with a 9.700 mark. |

|
|
Brown freshman Alicia Sacramone (Winchester, MA) was tops on
beam with a score of 9.750. She was also second on bars, 9.425, and in
the all-around, 37.600. Brown freshman Alanna Kwoka (San Mateo, CA)
was tied with URI junior Bridget Hild (Trevose, PA) for the
second-highest vault score at 9.450. |

Brown sophomore Jennifer Sobuta (Maynard, MA) also had a strong
meet, posting the third-best marks on beam, 9.125, and in the
all-around, 36.725. |

|
|
Rhode Island College sophomore Breanna Moroney (Metuchen, NJ)
starred for the Anchorwomen, posting the squad’s top marks on vault,
9.075, bars, 8.550, floor, 9.275 and in the all-around, 35.450.

|
In
upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at Southern
Connecticut on Sunday, Feb. 11. The Rams will compete at Yale on Feb.
17, while the Bears will next see action on Feb. 10 at the University
of New Hampshire Invitational. |
