JAY JONES EARNS 100th CAREER WIN AS WRESTLING SPLITS
Bonora Keeps Streak Alive Heading Into New Englands |

Hartford, CT—Rhode
Island College Head Wrestling Coach Jay Jones earned his 100th
career victory as the Anchormen downed Trinity, 27-15, in the club’s
final regular season match on Friday evening. RIC fell to Pilgrim
Wrestling League rival Bridgewater State, 40-8, as part of a
tri-match with the Bantams to finish the regular season with a 13-10
overall record, a 3-3 mark in the Pilgrim League and a 9-7 record
versus New England College Conference Wrestling Association
opponents. |

Jones becomes
only the second wrestling coach in Rhode Island College wrestling
history to amass 100 career wins, joining RIC Athletic Hall of Fame
Coach Rusty Carlsten in this exclusive category. |

|
|
The Anchormen were without the services of freshman Mike Martini
(Cranston, RI) at 157 lbs. and senior Andrew Algarin
(Leominster, MA) at 285 lbs., both ranked grapplers, who missed
the meet due to injuries. |

|
|
Junior Mike Bonora (Nutley, NJ) increased his personal
winning streak to 27 matches and his overall record to 41-3 at 141
lbs. Bonora, who was ranked second in N.E. in his weight class as of
the last poll, owns an incredible takedown total of 153, to go along
with 10 reversals, 16 near-falls and seven pins. He defeated
Bridgewater State’s
John Marsh, 18-6, and pinned Trinity’s
Jake Gire at 6:42 on the day. He has not lost since Dec. 2. |

Senior Arty Privedenyuk (Springfield, MA) has won 11 of his
last 12 matches to up his record to 25-8 at 165 lbs. He was ranked
fourth in the last NECCWA poll and owns a team-high 13 pins to go
along with 30 takedowns, 11 reversals and 14 near-falls. Privedenyuk
defeated Bridgewater State’s
Tyler Linneweber, 12-3, in picked up a win by forfeit vs.
Trinity. |

The Anchormen will take part in the New England College Conference
Wrestling Association (NECCWA) Championships, hosted by Roger
Williams and Feb. 17-18. |
