The Rhode Island College women’s volleyball team improved their
record to 9-7 in a 3-0 shutout win over Salem State on Thursday
evening at The Murray Center. The Vikings remain winless with an 0-5
record. |

The
Anchorwomen dominated the match from start to finish as Head Coach
Luis Carvalho was able to play 14 different student-athletes in
the victory. Rhode Island College jumped out to a convincing, 30-12,
win in game one, paced by a 10-point run, while senior setter Amy
Souza (Tiverton, RI) was serving. The reserves took the floor
for game two and earned a nine-point decision, 30-21. The
Anchorwomen did not let up in the final game, winning, 30-16, to
take the match. |

Senior middle
blocker Kimiyo Garcia (Riverside, RI) and senior hitter
Sherri Heard (Coventry, RI) paced RIC’s attack with nine kills
apiece. Garcia filled out the box score with an additional 16 digs
and four blocks. Souza led the squad with nine assists and eight
different Anchorwomen logged at least one kill. Sophomore libero
Jackie Gervais (Woonsocket, RI) posted 14 digs. |

Salem State
sophomore middle hitter Kristen Agrella (Dracut, MA) led the
Vikings with eight kills, while freshman setter Meghan Davey
(Westwood, MA) posted eight assists. |

In upcoming
action, Rhode Island College will compete at the Ramapo Classic on
Friday, Sept. 28, while Salem State will host the Salem State
Invitational on Sept. 29. |
